My Guru Always Said, aka Guru, aka Hilary, aka the ex-Luton nightingale is "spotlighting" this Sunday at the St Albans Spotlight club, 8pm, Royal British Legion, Verulam Road, St Albans, UK.

Don't miss this rare visit of a prodigal daughter of Bedfordshire from the deep South where she now resides!

Now don't think that this is just because you said nice things about me, Hilary, but I've always rated you as you well know.

In fact I like to think that I talent spotted you at an early stage when you were still a bit nervous about singing solo in public. However I know that there were others, too, who encouraged you - you really do have a talent for it - but I still take a paternal pride in how well you are blossoming. Have a great one!

(Hope that doesn't come across as patronisingly as it seems to: it's not meant to!)

*blushing* Awww, thanks FellowCats (with & without gingersnaps)....

Having been saved the DIY thread option by the charming El Greko, seems I've also been saved the job of 'blowing my own trumpet' which is a real bonus!!!

I'm really looking forward to having a sing in St Albans on Sunday, it'll be like coming home. I do hope there'll be some friends there to share some songs with.

Hmmm, better decide what to sing.......

I used to be in her band in the early days

I remember the fights and the wild drinking (that was guru)

Guru trod all over us on her way to the top

She finally left us in a bus shelter in Marsh Farm after we refused to wear cod pieces for the OAP christmas party gig

I'm not bitter - it's very nice in this hospital

What a brill evening doing the Spotlight at St Albans - I had a great time!! The audience stayed till the bitter end, despite all my many and varied errors & mobile phones ringing - not mine I hasten to add.

Mucho thanks to El Greko for holding my hand (as MC of course) throughout the evening & making sure I didn't make a complete fool of myself. Breezy behaved very well too I thought & accompanied me sympathetically in No Telling, which was nice.

Managed to get past the crowds of screaming fans & travel back home last night before collapsing with a nice cup of hot chocolate with the teeniest drop of brandy in it.

My major faux pas was thinking that my selected set of 7 songs would be sufficient for my spot of approx 30 minutes. Oh, woe was me when I announced that I was onto my penultimate song & found there were still 20 minutes to go before evening's end!!!!

Thinking at light speed I formulated a new plan of action to complete the evening with a further 3 1/2 songs - well, it would have been 4 if I hadn't forgotten the words to Jennifer's Rabbit half-way through........

There was an excellent selection of floorspots during the evening including Ross (who has always inspired me), Moses (having literally just returned from Australia), the charming El Greko (who can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned - his 4th CD launch is on March 19th at the Wandering Windward Club in St Albans) & a guy I hadn't heard before by the name of Chris Flegg (an absolute Star Performer if ever I saw one).

They're having fun & good music in St Albans, get along one day if you can!!!

Many thanks for all your support & Yes Lucy, I'll hear you at Miskin - looking forward to it!!!!

Well done , Hil
I'd have liked to have been there at St Albans to see you but no-one told me (understandably) you were on :-(

Any chance I can share your tent at Miskin?? There's still a few caches I've yet to do around there.

HA
