I had a shock for a moment as I thought there had been another fire since the 2004 one, but no. Pheew.

Wonderful pub and long may it continue to support live folk music.

Well, despite the candle tradition I seem to have started (candlelabra bringers, monster candle suppliers and brasso tin exponents you know how you are) it is still alive and kicking with Nigel(bloke with northern accent who seems to have no other home to go to) feeding Morris the budgie..and us!
Sometimes you can't move for boxes, or you get a bow in your eye, other times it's back to basic voices, we let anyone in ..even guitar players and Alan Whitbread... although an Alan Whitbread with every guitar could be problematic... we'd have to send for 'extra chairs' (one of Nigel's) or I'll sing a death/disaster song.
Wurlitzer organs not allowed on account they scare Morris., bagpipes (somewhere for Morris to perch)and cut-down pianos operated by teeth nails and hammers welcomed!
(Remember, only one Alan Whitbeard allowed in at a time for the sake of the beer!

Subject: Lyr add: Singing in the Fleece
From: Snuffy
Date: 25 Mar 04 - 08:10 PM

The Thursday sessions have continued uninterrupted since the fire. I wrote this to express the feelings of many of us, and sang it there tonight.

Singing in the Fleece

Playing in the Pewter Room, you would see the folkies
Fiddles, bodhrans, whistles, boxes that you squeeze
And the happy voices, joining with the music
Every Thursday evening, singing in the Fleece
Singing in the Fleece, singing in the Fleece
Every Thursday evening, singing in the Fleece
Singing in the Fleece, singing in the Fleece
Every Thursday evening, singing in the Fleece
Then that dreadful Friday, when the flames were leaping
Smoke hung o'er the village, carried by the breeze
Firemen couldn't save it, not much roof remaining
Would that be the end to singing in the Fleece?
Singing in the Fleece, singing in the Fleece
Would that be the end ... etc
Nigel was undaunted, he would not be beaten
Said "The Fleece ain't dead yet. Music will not cease.
Open up the tithe barn; heaters, seats and tables
Come along next Thursday, for singing in the Fleece."

"And we shall rebuild it, rising from the ashes
All shall be restored and then we'll be at peace
Once more in the Pewter Room, hear the joyful voices
Every Thursday evening, singing in the Fleece"

Latest rumour is that it may be about 6 months before the main pub can be rebuilt.

But in the meantime Nigel intends to sell drinks from the tithebarn. So .... THE NORMAL SESSION/SING WILL TAKE PLACE THIS (AND EVERY) THURSDAY

Chipping Norton has a monthly Sun. Fladbury Anchor one Fri and...... oh I haven't got my page up right now but there isn't a lot - but some. Pershore? Bakers Arms Broad Campden 3rd Tues

Let me know what you find (even if it is not your week)

I saw Nigel on telly and he had a wet patch on the side of his eye. He is a real folk friend. We won't say too much about him being a morris dancer...........

There was the regular Thursday session/sing at the Fleece, Eugene, but nothing else really close.

I was there Thursday night as usual, and will be going down to see Nigel today. More news later, I hope.

We were at the Fleece only last week talking with Nigel the Landlord, I am so upset to see it on the news tonight. Eugene Shellbacks will be singing in the Crown & Trumpet Broadway in the early morning till lunch and the Volunteer Chipping Camden late afternoon. I have yet to find an alternative lunch venue. Pm me for more details.

The burning of any pub is not good news wherever it is!

I'm in the Cotswolds for a week from Sat 6 March staying at Snowshill near Evesham. Any nearby sessions worth visiting?

Didn't read this at first as I had never heard of the place but have just discovered that it was to be the lunch venue for the Shellback Cotswold tour next weekend. Now they didn't have to go to those lengths we would have sung quietly!

Bugger, bugger, bugger!!!!

News just in, it doesn't look too pretty. TThurs session will definitely not be in the pub and the barn is not heated.

This is devastating for me. I first went to the pub when I was 8 or 9. And they wouldn't buy me a cider!!!!!
