Subject: Lyr Req: If I Could Be A Rover From: GUEST,conor Date: 01 Mar 04 - 09:36 PM Looking for the lyrics to a Barleycorn song called: If I could be A Rover Chorus I'd dance and I'd sing If I could be a rover If I could spend my leisure time and roam the whole world over Out for the devilment the joy and the fun If I could drink the whiskey boys until my days are done |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If I Could Be A Rover From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Mar 04 - 12:30 AM I can't even find a band named Barleycorn. AMG - All Music Guide lists a band called The New Barleycorn, but it doesn't have much information about them. Can you give us any more information about the band? Like, the names of some band members, the names of any albums they made, where they perform... |

Subject: Lyr Add: IF I COULD BE A ROVER From: GUEST,Irish Brigade Date: 05 Mar 04 - 04:42 PM Here are almost all the lyrics. The last I heard, The New Barleycorn was based out of Cleveland. I don't recall the names of the guys. I just happened to be archiving some of the old tunes today. Coincidence? I don't think so. IF I COULD BE A ROVER Chorus: I'll dance and I'll sing, if I could be a rover. If I could spend me leisure time and roam the whole world over. Out for the divilment, the joy and the fun. So I'll just drink the whiskey, boys, until me days are done. 1. If a man has to work all week from early morning light He needs a little something to keep him warm at night Some men like the women, for sport and for fun But I'll just drink me whiskey, boys, until me days are done. 2. I have a wife at home now, she nags me day and night Especially after closing time when I arrive home tight I know she doesn't mean it, that's why I take no heed And nagging at this time of night is the last thing that I need. 3. And when the time has come for me to take me last long sleep I'll raise the bottle to me lips and drink the liquid deep The clergy may condemn it, but I've got this to say If there's any drink n heaven, boys, I'll get there some fine day. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If I Could Be A Rover From: conor Date: 06 Mar 04 - 03:45 PM Thanks that's the One I had it on an original Barleycorn record when Paddy McGuigan was with the group. FYI Derek McCormack (former member of the Barleycorn) just passed away while on a performance cruise with other Irish singers and this song came into my head and I couldn't remember it for the life of me. You saved me some sleepless nights again, Thanks. |
