Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,LynnT Date: 01 Oct 04 - 06:07 AM So glad you like the stuff, Mike! There'll be a big jar, packed up real careful, for you to take back to Tawmee! You're right, I fell off the edge of the world for a while. One big change -- I don't have mice anymore, alas. I folded down the colony in about February (and made a bundle off the internet auction -- folks across the country were fighting over my bloodlines). And I still judge Mouse Shows regularly. Amazing how much more time there is on the weekend now, without 40 cages to clean! Can't tell whether the improvement in the general atmosphere in the house is due more to their absence or the lack of a certain large Labrador, though. (Anyone who's curious, check out Fancy English Show Mice on Google :)) KT or Susan A_R, d'you still need a ride? I can take one or two people up Friday afternoon, but I'm coming back Sunday night (gotta work Monday) so if you didn't want to do that you'd need to make other return arrangements. Happy to do a bit of driving to pick you up, though. Does this mean I get to come to the Thursday soiree? LynnT |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: DonMeixner Date: 03 Oct 04 - 08:49 AM Since once again other duties have me playing this weekend have a good time with out me. Post copious pictures to the site and I'll attend later at my ease. Now, if we had sound bites it would be even better. Mick, I have spoken to some musicians I know from the Onondaga Nation, a young man who is a friend of my boys from the Oneida Nation, and a guy who works for Niagara Mohawk. They all say they prefer as a collective phrase, American Indian to Native American. Don |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 03 Oct 04 - 08:45 PM Lynn, thanks, but I have set up a ride. See you there. So Mike, how much salmon can you cary???? (smacking her lips,) That Alaskan Sausage company stuff is darned good. See you all in a couple of weeks!!!! Susan |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 04 Oct 04 - 07:39 AM Damn. I was looking forward to the Cady's visit. The upside for me is I can sing "Socks and a Gun" and "Mama Fried" without stepping on the writers' collective toes. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: MMario Date: 04 Oct 04 - 08:15 AM Mike - I will point out to you that the "care and feeding of Muses" includes smoked salmon. After all - all chocolate and no salmon makes a muse - er - something.... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Dani Date: 04 Oct 04 - 01:11 PM Hey, MMario, does that 'care and feeding' include whiskey, or what? Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 04 Oct 04 - 01:15 PM Chocolate, Smoked Salmon AND Whiskey?????????? This is sure to be a well attended workshop, can we make reservations? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: MMario Date: 04 Oct 04 - 01:16 PM I think someone mentioned it, yes...*grin* also crystalized ginger. dagnabit - Marion tells me she can't make it this year. boo-hiss. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 04 Oct 04 - 01:29 PM It's turning into a stuffing-your-face workshop! (Works for me.) Mike, if there isn't any smoked salmon when I get there on Fri, I'll cry. This is real incentive to get there when I say I'm gonna get there. Are you flying in from Alaska? (On a plane.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 04 Oct 04 - 01:51 PM Mike...you may not realize what a rare, special treat good Salmon is here! (I got a few bites last year, and it brought back memories of my trip to Juneau almost 30 years ago!) It will be appreciated...just toss it on the counter and stand out of the way...*grin*) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 04 Oct 04 - 02:19 PM I'm flying into Newark on the 14th and spending the night with my daughter in Princeton. Then Tinker (bless her heart) is picking me up and driving me to Ramblewood on the 15th. Then Mick (bless his heart too) is forwarding me to Michigan afterwards to visit my son and his family. I fly home out of Grand Rapids on Sunday the 24th. I will try to have several packages of Salmon and will space them out over the evening of October 15th so hopefully, all can get a taste. Perhaps I'll bring some other delicacies as well. Muktuk (whale fat dipped in seal oil) would certainly spark some conversation I am sure. Camai, Mike |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Tinker Date: 04 Oct 04 - 02:56 PM Of course, I have pretty much guaranteed there will be Salmon when I arrive....Mmmmmm...... And for anyone who wants to mix it up for their muse I've got a dozen chocolete shot glasses... Tinker |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Oct 04 - 03:16 PM Don't forget, folks, the Mudcat Attic Dorm at my place is all set with comfy beds, fluffy towels.... a dee-lucks pee bucket... all that's missing is MUDCATTERS, Thursday night pre-Getaway of Monday night post-Getaway, and from Monday on into however long we can persuade you to stay. Mmario can give you details and take reservations on my behalf (OK Mm?), but even he hasn't seen how DAMN CUTE and COMFY it is, now. Got a double bed up there if there are any honeymooners interested.... get out the satin comforter just for you.... and the sheep pelts... oh yeah! But-- it's WAY too quiet up there-- c'mon, help me out! I'll be away till Weds-pre-G'way, but back in plenty of time to fire up the endless crockpot. In PA where 6 & 15 cross, I remain your faithful servant, ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: MMario Date: 04 Oct 04 - 03:29 PM yeah - y'know Mick - I know it would add a day to your trip - but heck - she is almost halfway between the getaway and toronto - a great place to make a stop. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 04 Oct 04 - 04:20 PM Susan, when can we expect YOU to come to the Getaway??!! I mean, it's one thing to operate a B-and-B-for-Folkies, but even better to participate in the festivities! Hopefully persuasively, Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 04 Oct 04 - 05:01 PM MMario, maybe halfway between the Getaway and Toronto, but I think maybe a big detour on the way back to Michigan. (Unless there's something I'm not aware of, besides 99% of everything else.) One of these years, Susan, you're gonna have to take a Sunday off! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Pauline L Date: 05 Oct 04 - 12:10 AM Is anyone driving to the Getaway from the environs of Detroit? I need some help, and that's what friends are for (that and other things). I have been through some very hard times in the last couple of years: no job, no money, no car, no love. Now I have a job. Some friends of mine in the Michigan/Madison, Wisc./Detroit area have a beat up old car which I can have (!!) if someone will only drive it here for me. Please, please, somebody help me! I'll pay you for expenses and some extra for appreciation. If you like, you can come to the DC area pre-Getaway, stay in my home, and go to Fortunato's party on Thursday night with me. I will be forever grateful... Pauline |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 05 Oct 04 - 01:33 PM Does the Getawatake place on the same weekend each year or does it vary? We are contemplating getting there in 2006 but may need to beg time off from school unless it coincides with half term which it did last year but not this but that was the school holiday varying rather than the Getaway. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Ferrara Date: 05 Oct 04 - 09:30 PM Mrs. Duck, We usually hold it the third weekend in October. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: wysiwyg Date: 08 Oct 04 - 10:48 AM Thanks, all, for the encouragement to come. There are so few things Hardi and I do JUST as a couple, that we can find time to share. The Getaway will be one of them, when he retires most likely. We MIGHT take some vacay time next year in October-- but ssshhhh! Don't tell him why! :~) ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 08 Oct 04 - 10:50 AM hee-hee-hee-hee! I wanna see this when the two of you hit Getaway! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Janie Date: 08 Oct 04 - 09:02 PM If you still need a ride from the Baltimore Airport....Dani & I will be going by there on our way to Ramblewood Friday in late afternoon or very early evening, say sometime between 4:00 and 7:00 and can adjust our schedule a little bit. We have room for one person and gear--possibly a very cramped two people with little gear or instruments. I'm not sure yet who is driving, but you can pm either one of us to work out details if you need a ride. Janie |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Big Mick Date: 11 Oct 04 - 12:41 PM Not fair, Janie. I live for those see through co-ed showers. Anyone interested in a lovely copy of the video from last year??? Mick |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 14 Oct 04 - 10:31 AM I have made it to New Jersey. Can't wait to see Tinker and Sinsull tomorrow morning (time???). Looking forward to seeing the rest of you folks this weekend. I've brought some tasty treats from the far north. Probably not enough to satisfy everyone, but should be plenty for all to taste. Its nice to be walking around in T-shirt and Birkenstocks again. Ahh, a reprieve from being frozen is always appreciated. See you soon, Mike |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 14 Oct 04 - 01:19 PM Got a last-minute question for those not already in transit. I have a song in mind for the main concert but would need a few "harmony sluts"(*) to help out. Sheet music will be available. PM me or talk to me tomorrow at dinner. Thanks and see y'all real soon now! -- Gary (*)filk community term for folks who excel at harmony-on-the-fly. Or, as a button floating around says, "Harmony Slut: Will Sing With Anyone." 8-) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Dani Date: 14 Oct 04 - 02:35 PM Any locals reading this? I'm not sure, but it seems to me that in the past, 495 has been a poor route to take at rush hour. Can someone who lives there please advise the best way to come if it's late afternoon? Or the magical time to pass through the chute? And are there people coming to BWI who don't have rides, or travelers still in need of bedding or kazoos? Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 04 - 03:15 PM 'magical time'on FRIDAY?...before 2PM..*grin* or after 8... there is no real easy way, coming from the south, to avoid 95-495 till you get North of town, then you can use a couple tricks the last 60-70 miles. Let me look at a map....and hope Charlie Baum sees this...he is our walking AAA. more soon... when are you starting and approximate schedule? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 04 - 03:43 PM it 'looks' like catching 301 between Richmond & Fredricksburg could help, but it ain't clear what is best to do as you approach Baltimore....I have only driven out there once or twice. Charley would know if there IS any sane route thru it all... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Dani Date: 14 Oct 04 - 04:25 PM Actually, I'm just wondering if it makes sense to stay on 95 instead of 495. That's where I remember a mess. Or am I mis-remembering the whole thing? Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 14 Oct 04 - 04:33 PM 95 is 495 going around DC...it is the 495 area that will be the main mess, as there is construction where they join...and heavy traffic all the way around the Beltway and past Baltimore. Rits will be picking up someone south of DC, and she says Mapquest gave her a good sounding route using 301 and other roads past Baltimore to Darlington.. She is gone for a couple hours, but we'll see if you are still considering it then....and maybe Charlie will pop in. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 04 - 06:28 PM I'm going to attempt the Tappan Zee bridge route in order to miss the big traffic jam I usually wind up in that makes me 1.5 - 2 hours later than I think I'm going to be. I'm all packed and just have to shove clothes, instruments and me in the car tomorrow. I'm bringing a spare blanket. There's no way I'm going to fit Carly's "thing" in the car unless it turns into a tardis by tomorrow. I'm bringing imported Turkish pistachios, and hopefully won't eat them all on the road. |
