Kate

Give me a ring 01405 769010 - I wrote a song about an old man remembering his time on the barges based on Goole Docks. It's on a Cockersdale CD - Can't remember which one - Wide Open Skies I think

Graham Pirt of "Cockersdale" lives in Goole and might have useful suggestions. I don't think I have a phone number for him, but there are contact details for the group, with John Hagan's number, at http://www.yorkshire-folk-arts.com/directory/performers_c.html#C. You could always try giving him a ring.

Too late now but Chris Sherburn of Last Night's Fun lives in the Goole area I think. Certainly he comes from there where his dad was a barge skipper. Chris has a barge which he is doing up.

Regards,

Dave

Forgot to say Joe that that's on the internet site for those not in the area. I'll post that if it does look like it'll be in the programme. It's going to be my first news package that I've filmed, reported and edited together myself. Hopefuly it'll be OK!

This Area was so striking, I got some lovely shots. Can't promise anything but hopefuly it'll be on tomorrow evening at 18.30 (GMT) on Look North, BBC1 in E.Yorks and Lincs. I'd be so grateful if anyone does think of any music to put with it. Catters are always such a good source of info.

I'm hoping we can come up with a couple of songs. I thought Goole was a lovely little town. Of course, I thought every town I visited in the UK was lovely. That's the advantage of being a visitor - you see the beauty, and nothing seems ordinary.

I've PMed you the phone number of Dave Blagrove. Dave has written and collected many songs about the waterways, although mainly concerned with narrowboats rather than "Tom Puddings". He lives at Stoke Bruerne near Northampton, but I expect he's been to the Aire & Calder a few times in his life.

It's not I'm afraid. It's Kate from Leeds - about to move over to Hull in June.

Working on a film project for tomorrow morning. I wonder if anyone might be able to help me find a piece of music to compliment the piece. It can be a literal match or something that would just hint at the tone of the piece.

It's about a guy who's returning to his former workplace - a 65 foot No 5 Compartment Boat Hoist on the South Dock of Goole. It was built in 1912 to haul coal barges (known locally as Tom Puddings)out of the water. The coal was then tipped into a ship and taken for export. They were put out of service as the mining industry started to demise in the area. Apparently Goole had previously been one of the major exporters of coal pre-war, transporting about 3 million tonnes a year.

I'm sorry this is such a long ramble about it but if any element of it strikes up an idea of what music could be used alongside I'd be extremely grateful. I'm looking for something either traditional or classical. I've got some beautiful pictures of this amazingly striking structure backlit against the sky.

Can anyone help?
