COMING OF AGE

MUSIC MOVES workshops are part of a major community-based creative music-making project called 'Coming of Age', celebrating 21 years of Beverley & East Riding Folk Festival.

MUSIC MOVES
A weekend of dance workshops followed by a competition

SAT 3 APRIL & SUN 4 APRIL - Memorial Hall, Lairgate, Beverley

MUSIC MOVES is a weekend of dance workshops hosted by Sam Pirt as artistic leader. The workshops will focus on French, Scandinavian and English dance and tune styles, creation and composition.

There will be a ceilidh evening on Saturday 3rd April at the Memorial Hall starting at 7.30pm. Food & drink will be available during the evening. Individual tickets are available for the ceilidh at £5.

After the workshop weekend, a competition will be launched where anyone under 30 years old is invited to submit one dance and its tune. The dance must be a traditional French, Scandinavian or English style dance. Deadline for entries will be Monday 19th April 2004.

A panel of three judges (including Jo Freya & Dave Hunt) will choose three winners.

Each winner will receive:

A cash prize of £250
Two days masterclass time with Sam Pirt
A commission to write a new dance
Prestige of having their new dance performed at Beverley & East Riding Folk Festival's International Dance Evening on 17th June 2004

£15 for workshop weekend (excluding meals & accommodation). Includes ticket to ceilidh on Saturday 3rd April.

Competition terms & conditions: 1 The musician must be under 30 years of age on 19 April 2004. 2 Tune entries must be on cassette, CD, or written in tablature of standard music notation. Dance moves must be written on one side of A4. 3 The prizes will be presented on Thursday 17th June 2004 at Beverley & East Riding Folk Festival's International Dance Evening. 4 Copyright remains with the composer, but with permission for the piece to be included in the Coming of Age celebration DVD, in the Music Moves dance selection book, and played on radio, TV or published in the media. 5 The judges decisions are final. 6 Three copies of your entry must be sent to Music Moves, Festival Office, 2 Star Row, North Dalton, Driffield, E Yorks.
