Subject: Pocatello Happenings From: Rapparee Date: 11 Mar 04 - 01:07 PM Not only is the DNFCR coming to Pocatello this week and weekend but: IRISH MUSIC IN THE LIBRARY Concert Scheduled for March 20 at 2:00 p.m. The Marshall Public Library presents Irish music in the Library with Rune Stone on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. Rune Stone, a group of talented musicians led by flautist Kristi Austin, began as an idea Ms. Austin had for getting together and "jamming" with other artists who liked Irish folk music. Ms. Austin, a reference librarian at Idaho State University's Eli M. Obler Library, began the sessions at Pub & Dud's, gradually finding other artists to join the fun. The group has coalesced into a formal band that includes some dance routines, as well as vocalization. Members of Rune Stone are Wayne Nelson—guitar; Judy Del Debbio—vocalist who also plays the 12-string guitar; Evelyn Hitchcock—accordion; Valerie Finnigan—dances, vocalizes, and plays the harp, whistles and bodhran; J.D. Layman—fiddle; and Sheila Sakizzie—fiddle. Performing as Dun Ceol, Austin's group will also appear with the Scoil Rince na hEsan and Idaho Children's Dance Theater at the Colonial Theater in Idaho Falls on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. Rune Stone also plays every Monday night at Pub & Duds. The pieces Rune Stone will perform at the Marshall Public Library include "St. Patrick's Day," "O'Keeffe's Jig," "Connaughtman's Rambles," "The Butterfly," "Banish Misfortune," "Ffarwell I Aberystwth," "Lannigan's Ball," "Irish Washerwoman," "Rakes of Kildare," "Star of County Down," "Swallow Tail Jig," and "Dust on the Windowsill." According to Ms. Austin, "These are happy, foot-stomping songs." and IN CELEBRATION OF DODGE NATIONAL CIRCUIT FINALS RODEO WEEK !!! Thursday March 18, Friday March 19, and Saturday March 20, 2004 - 7:00 to 9:00 PM Cowboy Poetry & Storytelling written and performed by some of Idaho's top award winning poets! Ellie Corrigan, Oral Elser, Layle Bagley, Denise McRea, Gene Jones, and Wayne Nelson will be here to share their poetry and stories of the joys (and some of the sorrows) of western ranch life with great western songs and ballads sprinkled throughout. They've entertained audiences throughout the west and Canada and have put together some of their best (and some of the funniest) material for these special evenings. Following this event each night will be music and song with some of the finest talent around dropping by to help celebrate Rodeo week. So put on your hats and saddle up, it's time to ride! It's all happening at the Pub & Duds on the corner of Benton & 2nd Ave in Pocatello (208) 232-9755. (For you information, Pub & Duds is a restaurant/bar/laudromat. No cover charge.) So...if you're in want of someplace to go later this week...Horizon and Sky West fly into Pocatello, and I-15 runs right by town. The motels will be full, though, but I can try to find a place for you to stay (no promises!). |
