This is a music thread, if you count potential financial support for Mudcat music research as a music thread.

The American Historical Association was mentioned at WAMU's Dick Spottswood program as supporting that program. I wondered if they might be interested in supporting Mudcat or projects here, or if they already have supported it (DT?). But to view their grant process online you must be an association member, and it ain't cheap.

I would love to belong to an organization who's moniker spells: AHA!

I tried for some time to figure out a way to get to some AHA documents cited in an article, and eventually discovered that one of the nearby university libraries had fairly complete copies of just about everything I wanted. (Unfortunately, I've moved, so the one I know about isn't nearby any more.)

As explained to me then, in order to get their journal articles, the library has to have a "library membership." I don't know if that's so special that they might have less than full access to other stuff, but it is possible that you can find what your looking for at a "hard copy" library in your area.

They might even be able to at least confirm by phone whether or not they have the specific info you want, so that you don't have to negotiate getting access if they don't have it.

Find out about the AHA here. Grants should be there someplace.

John, American Historical Review is online, but not free. Check a nearby academic library. Their journal is a 'core' title so most will have it. The 'institutional membership' category is pretty meaningless. We tell our jobber we want a subscription to American Historical Review, they know it's a membership title & 'join' us up. If you want older material, the backfiles are in JSTOR. The AHA membership pages have information about payments for individuals.

Yes, as I linked above, that is the site. The Grants section is members-only. I'm looking for a member who can look in there and see if their grants might fit Mudcat.

WYSIWYG, I didn't really answer you did I? I don't have time today, but later in the week, I may be able to dig out our institutional membership information & see if I can get in. We tend to ignore the fact that we have a membership, but I think they actually send me the ID information from time to time.

That would be great, Burke, thanks. If it can help get some MudBucks, it will be worth the time to poke around.
