Hey Southern New England Mudcatters,
I know this is weird ... but my friend Dick said last night at the Sounding Board in Hartford that he felt strange not playing anywhwere for St Patty's Day, so I have remedied the situation with a gratis gig...tonight (Sunday).
We meet at Starbucks in Colchester tonight at 5:30pm (directions pasted below)and go over songs and tunes in that quiet setting for a while [ I have permission for this]. Then later we go a few doors down to Billy O'Brian's Irish Pub and crash that place with a quick Irish set.
You may wish to go and have an earlier dinner at Billy O'Brian's. It is a nice place with a good Irish atmosphere and good food. Not usually a crazy place...but who knows what it's like tonight.

DIRECTIONS:
Come from wherever on Rte 2 East or West    -    take Exit 18 in either direction    -   Right at the end of the exit (in either direction) and go toward Colchester Center on Rte 16East   -   Pass Blockbuster on the right and quickly drive up to the town green (between the big white churchon the right and the town library on the left)   -   with the green in front of you take a LEFT AT THE LIGHT and pass Billy O'Brian's Irish Pub on your left   -   turn left at the next light in to the plaza after Billy O'Brian's   - Starbucks is in this plaza, facing the smaller memorial green across the street

I just came back from our first Starbuck's Sunday Night session. It was lots of fune with the four people who were there. We are making plans to make it a weekly event where we can do some slow jams on secondary instruments which we need to get practice on playing SSSSLLLowly. Get back in touch if you are interested or go to THE SESSIONS website where it is posted as a weekly session in CT. Hope to have more of you there with us next week. GREAT COFFEE ! (Decaf is best for a good sleep tonight)

We now have permission from the Starbuck's people to make this a weekly event. Any Mudcatters who play a little on some appropriate instrument are welcome to join in on Sunday afternoon. Here's the listing as it appears in The Sessions Website.

Starbuck's,Billy O'Brian's Pub,
Schedule:
Sundays, late afternoon - early evening from 5:30-7:30 at Starbucks, where it's nice and quiet for going over tunes and songs...then we may run three doors down to a wonderful Irish Pub called Billy O'Brian's and give them a quick set of what we work up during the session at Starbuck's.
For extra confirmation of that week's plans call Mike at 860.537-2441

Content: 1. Celtic and Old Time American Tunes in a slow jam
setting ( played through slowly for learning ... then
speeded up to a faster level if possible for performance)
2. Celtic and Traditional/Contemporary American Folk
Songs that feature the talents of whomever we have
attending that session. [Warning to tune snobs - we
probably will feel like singing]

Repertoire: Let's see what develops and we'll add a tunelist later. The session host has lots of written stuff for those who read, but things will be slowed down for those who don't.

EVERYBODY IS WELCOME .... ALL MUSIC LOVERS ENCOURAGED TO COME AND AND HANG OUT - SINGING ALONG IF THEY WISH !!!!!

Directions
Come from wherever on Rte 2 East or West - take Exit 18 in either direction - Right at the end of the exit (in either direction) and go toward Colchester Center on Rte 16East - Pass Blockbuster on the right and quickly drive up to the town green (between the big white churchon the right and the town library on the left) - with the green in front of you take a LEFT AT THE LIGHT and pass Billy O'Brian's Irish Pub on your left - turn left at the next light in to the plaza after Billy O'Brian's - Starbucks is in this plaza, facing the smaller memorial green across the street

I lived in Colchester when I was first married.. I cannot believe that there is now a STARBUCKS.. amazing. I remember Colchester as a quaint sleepy little town. Ben and Leo's market in the center, and a small shopping center beyond on the left. I guess the urban spread must have reached wayyyyy out from Hartford and New London. Great to hear that you are doing sessions!

Yes....sleepy little Colchester has a Starbucks now, and it gets pretty good business from the looks of things. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad, but I'm going to do what I can to make the results of this urban sprawl get people together for a change. My wife grew up in town when it had 3,000 people and it's now up to 18,000 about 40 years later. That's still not huge but the place is getting quite strange to those of us who have been around a while.
