You could find out if all is cool with John/Troll by contacting his son Martin. Here's Martin's website. There's an email link on the page. Just send him something like "Haven't heard from your dad in a while. Is he dead or just pissed off."

You never know about Troll. Last time he disappeared, he ended up singing sea chanteys at Disneyland Japan for 6 months. That has to be the most exotic job any Mudcatter has had.

oh I don't know Joe. I think we can do better than any Disney gig for exotic. After all a lot of us are weirdoes, and many have even weirder friends.

I played fiddle for a firewalk wedding. That's my submission in the "one-off gig" category.

Martin's gig would have been at Tokyo DisneySea, the new theme park adjacent to Tokyo Disneyland. And as I said in a long-ago thread about folky music at theme parks, it is the world's greatest gig. Try to imagine getting paid to PRACTICE....every day...all day...in a fabulously interesting place like Japan....for people who think you're great even when you flub a few notes. From his website, it looks like Martin plays anything and everything, and probably quite well-a direct result of constant practice/performance. I envy him mightily- I'm about 20 years too late for this type of thing, but oooooh, would I have loved to....Fiddling at a firewalk wedding is certainly more exotic, but not a better gig!

Saw Troll at the Florida Folk Festival. He is alive and well. I didn't ask why he's not into Mudcatting anymore and he didn't volunteer a reason.

Actually I saw Troll under the Michigan Avenue bridge in downtown Chicago by the Billy Goat Tavern.

He was hollaring, "chee'borger! chee'borger! Pesi, no, coke. chips, no fries."

The 4 legged creatures above were tap, tap, tapping across.

Billie Goats Gruff and VW beetles beware! THE troll lives in the Fremont district in Seattle. He probably came over with the influx of Scandinavians to this area in the late 1800s. He lurks under the north end of the Aurora Avenue bridge.

And he's a BIG sucka!!
