I am going on to Broadband in a week`s time, and I would like to know if I can use either of my two PCs to surf.

Sure, why not? That's the major reason for going on to broadband. If you can limit yourself to one PC surfing, the PC gets hooked up directly to the Cable Modem or DSL modem. Otherwise, if you need two or more surfing PCs, a network hub is needed. In that case you eith get two IP numbers from the service provider or you get a configurable router to manage the internal (home) network.

Maybe I don't understand the question?

Why not ask the people who are installing the broadband? Or do you plan to ask them for folk music lyrics?

Welcome to the 20th century eh!

:-)

Yeah. bear in mind, if you are using both at the same time, you will not get maximum speed on both, they will be roughly halfed, if you are doing things on both.

i love broadband! do yourself a favour and buy Counter Strike, and give it a go online... you will NEVER come off!

Having done the same long ago and gone through both wired and wireless solutuions I would strongly recommend you go wireless. Get a wireless router with a built in firewall and wireless networks cards in your PCs. It is unbelievable easy and no hastle about sharing your internet connection using a PC with a software firewall. DON'T leave a PC directly connected without a firewall. It took me 4 hours to sort out the viruses and trojans my brother in laws' PC after he did!

PC world, although often not the cheapest, do sometimes do a good package deal including a wireless router and a couple of cards. 3Com/US Robotics seem to be about best at the moment with 54Mbps ready for 100Mbps. Check it out and you might be surprised. (You are UK aren't you?). Incidentaly who are you going with? I am getting a bit cheesed off with NTL and thinking of moving.

Cheers

I work from home at present and I have two PC's connected to via broadband. One I use to listen to net radio etc the other I work on or even to visit the chat room at the same time.

I use a very simple router. It can take up to 4 computers and was dead easy to set up. I have not reaaly noticed a slow down on either machine when both connected.

I would advise you also have a fire wall. I am using Norton Internet Security software which combines a Norton anti virus and a Norton firewall type application.

So far (fingers and toes crossed) I have been virus free and no one has managed to get into my PC by hacking it. When you are on braodband you seem to be more open to virus's and people wanting to look inside your PC.
