Subject: Lyr Add: ONE HAND ON THE RADIO (B Caddick, P Bond) From: Eugene Judge Date: 21 Mar 04 - 06:26 PM It's a track on Angus Finnan's CD "North Wind" Lyrics from his website http://www.aengusfinnan.com/homepage.html CD Notes: Lyrics & Music: Bill Caddick and Pete Bond, Rough Music) Arranged by: Aengus Finnan, David Rogers, Trevor Mills This one is on here for Peter Gzowski and the thousands of lives he touched through the radio in cars, restaurants, bedrooms, basement workshops, and at kitchen sinks across the country. And profound thanks to the CBC and North American Folk DJs who keep the music that matters on the air. ONE HAND ON THE RADIO I've been talking at the man on the radio Thought I know he can't hear a word that I say No he keeps right on talking telling me the time And the weather and the wavelengths and his disc of the day He understands the way that I feel One hand on the radio, one on the wheel There's no car lights in the mirror only starlights above All the truck driving heroes have called it a day Just the whine of the wheels as they eat up the miles And the raindrops on the window and the night owl DJ Don't you tell me there's a wreck on the road ahead Don't you tell me that the rain's going to turn into snow Keep me going, stop me thinking, fill up my mind For without you on the airwaves the night goes so slow Guess I'll pull in for a coffee call her up on the phone And across the dark hours she'll float down the line Saying don't drive if you're tired I miss you too So keep it coming Mr. DJ, help me home one more time © 2002 Shelter Valley Productions Eugene Judge |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Nov 11 - 03:39 PM Would Billboard's web site convince you? It says: One Hand on the Radio Artist: Aengus Finnan Written by: Caddick, Bill/Bond, Pete * And while you're at it, notice the correct spelling: Aengus, not Angus. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: Leadfingers Date: 03 Nov 11 - 07:52 AM It IS well sung indeed - But sadly we have another example of crediting a song to whoever has recorded it , rather than who wrote it . Is it usually a case of insufficient info on the Recotd sleeve ? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 Nov 11 - 11:50 AM On the page that links to the song being sung by AF, in the first paragraph, Caddick and Bond are credited as the writers, Leadfingers. Is that what you meant? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 Nov 11 - 11:56 AM I see lots of that--songs mis or not at all attributed--when I look for lyrics. Seems it's pandemic. Likely the result of 1) ignorance 2) sloppy practices 3) lyric websites built to make a buck 4) people who don't care Witness the 01 Nov 11 - 10:28 PM post. Just someone who didn't bother to read the thread and then shot from the hip. Sad, really. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: Mark Dowding Date: 04 Nov 11 - 07:51 AM Pete Bond sang this at Frodsham folk club a few months ago. It's good to see him doing the clubs again albeit on a not very regular basis. We've got him booked at the Room at the Top folk club at the Red Lion pub in Newburgh, Lancashire on Feb 6th next year (4 miles from M6 J27 - follow A5209 Parbold Tel 01257 464215 for more details) Cheers Mark |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Hand on the Radio (B Caddick, P Bond) From: Marje Date: 04 Nov 11 - 07:57 AM Crediting the singer rather than the writer is very common in pop music. People seem to think that the song was just lurking undiscovered, and only when a singer performed it did it spring into life. It's a strange attitude but I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised when it spills over into folk. Marje |
