I went to the red shed last night to find out there was an impromptu st paddy open mike session. And we were approached to play, we agreed on the proviso that we wee on early doors (Other pubs to go to you understand.)
   So my mates girlfriend who doesn't drink went back home got my mate his guitar and I borrowed one of his mandolins. This was about 7.45 pm. By 10 pm we still weren't up, yet one of the hosts had been up three times.
I know I may be off on one for nowt but, what I want to know is how do you say, "Are you taking the piss or what?" in polite society

In those circumstances you say ' Are you taking the piss or what ?' and then leave. In fact you leave before then !!!

I'm not familiar with the location or how it may have worked, but on some of the open mic nights here, the host is hired by the establishment, and expect them to perform as well, so it MIGHT have been a case of that instead of just being an inconsiderate stage-hog...
