1. Photo of family, including granddaughter to be born in June.
2. Hummingbird,(guitar) gift from my mother, St. Louise, Cook and Martyr.
3. Colt .45 automatic, because a .22 isn't loud enough.
4. Beat-up pennywhistle.
5. Micrometer, one inch or 25mm.
6. Program from " Land Of The Dragon", the first play I was in.
And I'd like Petunia The Wonder Dog in the family photo too.
I was going to include a Guinness, but I'll drink it instead.
Fair winds,
SKP

All set out with the view from the family cabin in the background

1. A picture of my family

2. My Fiddle,

3. My big blue and white bread bowl, symbol of bread broken with friends, and the kindness of strangers (the hardware store I bought it from 25 years ago gave me a deal on it because I was poor and unemployed)

4. Hendrix the cat (oops, he probably just ran off to chase mice)

5. A hand knit shawl (I make them for a couple of local craft stores now)

6. A nice bottle of Cabernet.

So many things, so little time!

One of my 5-string Stewart banjos but which one.

One of my two cats but is it Tejitu or Tilahun but neither is very still unless they are sleeping?

One of my draft songbooks, either Pity the Downtrodden Landlord: The Housing and Neighborhood Organizing Songbook or the Ciceley Fox Smith Anthology?

A Shipyard amber ale or a Newcastle brown ale?

The F/C Anglo concertina or the G/D Anglo concertina?

Dried apricots or pistachio nuts?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

The photo of me standin' beside Primo Carnera.
The photo of me, Cheetah, Johnny Weismuller, Humphrey Bogart, and Lauren Bacall sittin' together at a nightclub in 1952.

I simply happen to like lizards, number 6. They are very neat looking animals, and I had some as pets when I was a child.

They have probably not been as big an influence on my life overall as Joan Baez, though... ;-)

This is a tough one.

A well-used thumbpick.
A ream of foolscap.
A SCUBA tank
A sextant
A kiss
A soul.

There are anumber of things this leraves out -- A miner's pick,
a half-smoked cigar, a condom, a sailboat, and a chestnut stallion come to mind, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. Don't ask me how I would represent the last two items. I am operating under my newly-renewed poetic license from the State of California.

I'm taking this premise quite literally just now. In a couple of months our local art association will have a show titled "Imagine That", aimed at getting more imaginative/non-realistic art than we usually get submitted. There will be a "people's choice" award competition. To be eligible for the competition, an art work must include at least 5 items from a list of ten:
footprint or handprint; timepiece; candle; words; egg; hat; flower; fiber; face; silverware.
So far I've put together this photo for one of my entries. We're each allowed 3 eligible pieces.

Yes, actually there is such a picture in the Buffy Sainte-Marie songbook. And there's a number of great pictures of Joan and Bob, but I have not seen one with all three of them in it yet.

My Martin D-28H
A vinyl album copy of Dylan's "Bringing It All Back Home"
A picture of Buffy Sainte-Marie
The fancy hat that I used to wear when playing onstage
A museum quality built model airplane
A really well done statue of a lizard

(it would be nice to get a picture of the young Joan Baez in there too...but that would make seven things...so if Joan's in, I guess the lizard has to step out)

I haven't asked Joe to intervene because I figured that if I give you enough rope, you would hang yourself.

This thread has nothing to do with the Middle East.

I just remembered - years ago I went to a 'retreat' in the course of which we were instructed to draw on a large sheet of paper different images of ourselves in the course of our lives.

I found it a pleasing exercise. It became an almost mindless thing. In the middle of the things I drew, I sketched a child, maybe one year old, sitting with a ball on its lap.

But when the others saw it, they loved it and kept telling me that I had captured it all- a human being with the world on its lap.

I demurred, saying I had only drawn a ball.

But on inspection I had to agree- I had clearly drawn a couple of continents on my 'ball'.

Sandra,

6 different cadavers would make an actually dead, and, yes, still, a very still life.

Sadly, it's already been done though. Twas on the front page of the Chicago Tribune a few days ago--a street scene from Baghdad.

That comes "CLOSE" to being inclusive, but it still misses important things like popcorn, and black licorice....

I had such a great time re-reading this thread I wondered if any other Mudcatters would like to add their lists - or alter their original list!

1. A teddy bear (I make them & collect them)
2. book (I've been a reader all my life)
3. A poster for my folk club (always have a few in my bag)
4. A song printed out from Mudcat or another source (& always printed in 12 or 14 font Arial so I can read it!!)
5. Sushi (I take it to clubs & sessions & often have it for dinner)
6. A waistcoat (I'm never seen without one, ditto a hat but that would make 7 items)

1. the general word 'bear'would be replaced by a specific bear who now wears my old boater, it's a tad big for him, but I couldn't throw it away & the charity shops would certainly not want such a battered hat!

3. I no longer automatically carry posters around, so I'll replace it with the club banner

otherwise the list holds

sandra
