Hi Eddi, and welcome to Mudcat! (Another illustrious guest!)
The attatchments we form with our instruments can break our hearts. I've parted with instruments in order to up-grade and then found myself trying to re-trace them to buy them back!
Not so long back I was re-united with my first guitar after a 30 year separation. The instrument, an EKO Ranger6, wasn't anything special but the reunion was emotional.

So let's keep this good story trend going. Anyone seen my guitar rattling around Toronto, Canada? Alvarez, circa mid to late 60's. Dark wood sides, bright red front..Spanish style?

I wanted to tell my story of the night I lost my wonderful, constantly by my side, guitar...
I joined a band when I left school. I was the only girl in an all male, country rock band, they taught me a lot about life on the road in scotland... the drugs, the drink, the women, mostly they taught me never to go near a musician if I wanted a stable relatiionship...
anyway I was young, The guitar player had a family and had bought a second hand guitar for his son... the son refused it so I bought it from him for 40 pounds.
a lot for me in '78.
I took it with me all over europe busking when I left my band... it was a small guitar with and easy action, built as a copy of the Martin I think. It was called a YASUMA and was number 1000 hand made, it said inside.
I loved the way it sounded and slept near it, ate near it, played it more than I walked and talked, I was in love.
then I went to AVIGNON in the south of France... me and some other campfire, grape picking, street musicians .. packed up for the day and took our van to the outskirts of town to find a camp...
when we were making our evening meal... I went to the back of the VW van and there was NO GUITAR... I pleaded with the guys to drive the five or so miles back into the centre of town to the car park were I was sure the guitar was left... but there was no guitar or case there...
I went to the police station and reported it missing... I broke my heart.
my passport was inside the case but I didnt care about that.
for one week I returned everyday to the AVIGNON police station, hopefully someone would hand my guitar in... they shook their heads a lot... no-one was very hopeful... it was such a big town and so many transients.
SIX days later the police told me someone had my guitar... they gave me the address... and I found that it was someone who lived above the bread shop where I used to play. The husband of the woman who used to sell me bread for my lunch had picked up the guitar in the car park on his way home from work. On looking inside the wife saw my face in the passport and recognised me as the singing girl.
I was reunited with my love and never more have we been apart.
that was ... OH MY Goodness!! twenty five years ago.

Never thought of it..but what a great place to put the word out about stolen instruments. It's been several years, but my favorite Spanish guitar, a Alvarez (the one I learned on...bought by my parents, the one I sang to my babies on...you know the drill) was stolen from a locked van in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The back and sides are a lovely dark wood and the front is red with the typical"braid" around the soundhole. Also..a feature on the head of the guitar...the very top is crushed as if held in a pair of pincers. Was playing a session in a friend's pub and I think someone at the session might have lusted after it overwhelmingly. Would love any info anyone might have.

Fair enough, Tom, thanks for pointing that out. It was stolen near Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. But these things will travel quickly. And the thief might alter the appearance.

As you will see from the email I received, we have a request for assistance. A very good musician had his favorite guitar stolem. It is very distinctive. Keep your eyes open. Isn't it something that we are getting well enough known for folks to ask us for help?

I'm forwarding this to you guys 'cause you doubtlessly know more musicians than I do. I've already checked E-bay. Mick, maybe you could give a holler to the mudcat folks?

The guitar in question is a 60's Harmony Meteor thinline with a yellow flame paint job.

I am sending this to any and everyone who does avid concert going, has affilaition w/a college campus, tatoo shop, or play an instrument, and I implore you to please pass this on to everyone you know who applies as well.

On Saturday, after a show, my friend Jim's guitar was stolen. His band ( DangerVille) opened for the Reverend Horton Heat at the Club Soda. The case was not taken, and the instrument is VERY distinct. I will include a link with the full description of the guitar.

A police report has been filed and some area pawn brokers have been notified, but I have a sinking feeling that ehe jackass who did this isn't gonna sell it.

Anyone who reads this & knows Jim/Danger knows how much "Miss Jones" means to him. Any help - just passing this on & getting the word out & keeping your eyes peeled would be awesome - that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.
