Subject: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Ed. Date: 30 Mar 04 - 01:47 PM I stumbled across this today (from one of the Mudcat's Google Ads): www.folkalley.com It's a similar idea to Hober, streaming folk music 24 hours a day. The definition of 'folk' is a pretty wide one (lets not go there), but I've really liked what I've heard over the last couple of hours. You have to register a valid email address to listen, but that's not a problem (Set up a free hotmail, or some such, account if you don't like giving your address out) Enjoy |

Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Mar 04 - 06:04 PM Does it work with 56k or is buffering a pain? |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Ed. Date: 31 Mar 04 - 02:10 PM Various connection speeds/formats are offered. The Real Audio feed is 20Kbs, so I wouldn't see a problem |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: GUEST Date: 31 Mar 04 - 02:52 PM I listen to AOL radio's folk channel most of the time when I'm on line. Don't know who chooses their music but they play some great folk artists and have a link to buying the CD if you fancy what you hear. I've just bought Kate Rusby's 'Underneath the Stars' having heard it first on AOL. At the moment they're playing Steve Schuch's Ibis the Whale - well worth a listen....... |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 21 Sep 04 - 06:19 PM Just wanted to add my endorsement of Folk Alley. I am not an AOL subscriber, so I can't talk about their program. It has been a pleasure to listen to "folk radio" on demand. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Clinton Hammond Date: 21 Sep 04 - 06:57 PM I listen to www.folkalley.com all the time lately... got my Fan package in the mail today from them... Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: GUEST,Mark Cohen at work Date: 22 Sep 04 - 12:27 AM FolkAlley is an outgrowth of the folk music shows on WKSU, which were (and still are, I believe), archived at wksu.org. I started listening to that one a few years ago, and it was wonderful, since there's hardly any folk (or folk-like) music on the radio here in Hawaii, except for Hawaiian music. I like the show, though it's heavier on singer-songwriters and lighter on trad than some "real folkies" might prefer. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: denise:^) Date: 22 Sep 04 - 02:25 AM I'll have to give it a listen; I'm sure I'll enjoy it-- --but it still can't replace the 'personal touch' of a local DJ, and their 'feel' for local artists and venues. (Sorry, I'm not through the grieving process yet...) denise :^) |
Subject: RE: Internet Radio: Folk Alley From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 22 Sep 04 - 10:34 AM Mark - I listen to Aloha Joe, to get my fill of Hawaiian music, although AOL is good too. Folk Alley says it need $$ - but I also listen to WDVX (they just played Iris) and they needed money to move out of their trailer - now that they're doing better, I should give some $$ to Folk Alley. I also recommend KBOO before 7am pacific - this am they played Sam Hinton's (I think) interview with Haywire Mac who told about meeting Joe Hill - the net sure is something! Got to get to work - Chris in Chicago |
