Subject: Eliza Gilkyson - Land of Milk & Honey From: Merritt Date: 30 Mar 04 - 05:58 PM Caught 2 songs from Ms. Gilkyson - "Tender Mercies" and "Milk & Honey" - on Wisc Public Radio's Simply Folk program this last Sunday night. First time I ever heard her. Bought the album, Land of Milk and Honey, on-line 5 minutes after the end of the second song. I love her voice. I like her sad melodies and thoughtful lyrics. "Milk and Honey" sounds like a hymn to the early 21st century. - Merritt "It's all one big note." - Frank Zappa |
Subject: RE: Eliza Gilkyson - Land of Milk & Honey From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 31 Mar 04 - 05:08 PM I had the pleasure of interviewing Eliza Gilkyson and will be airing it on April 11 on my show---TRADITIONS. Will post a note later on the subject, but for immediate reference : the show air from 3-6 PM and my plan is to air her interview during the 4 PM ET hour. You can catch it on the web if you are not in the NY NJ CT area http://www..wfdu.fm As to Eliza--that latest album (Milk & Honey) is just great. And the ending will have you marching around the room. If you can get to see her in concert you should. Great stories and music---and some of her dad's material along with Dylan---and, of course, her own material. Bill Hahn WFDU/Traditions |
Subject: RE: Eliza Gilkyson - Land of Milk & Honey From: Art Thieme Date: 31 Mar 04 - 10:06 PM Land O Milk And Honey was the name of a musical on Broadway about early Israel. Could this be the title song from that play!! IF SO, the same tune was used by Fred Geis for his song called "Goin' Home". That song was recorded by the Kingston Trio ---and it went to number one on the charts before someone realized that the melody was from the opera FAUST by Gounod. The song was quickly pulled by Capitol Records. I believe litigation was avoided. Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: Eliza Gilkyson - Land of Milk & Honey From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 01 Apr 04 - 05:00 PM Art: No---she explains in the interview I did with her why she called the album what she did. It is has to do with hopes promised and not fulfilled for humanity. At least to this point.--- She used it as a metaphor not just Israel, but all unrealized dreams in lands of promise. Or, briefly, as she states, for the U S in these terrible times. The CD is, I truly feel, her best work to date. Bill Hahn |

Subject: Lyr Add: MILK AND HONEY (Eliza Gilkyson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 12 Nov 09 - 10:16 AM OK, I know this wasn't a request for lyrics, but they're interesting and worth having: Copied from http://www.myotaku.com/users/z-rex/life/ MILK AND HONEY Eliza Gilkyson Oh what fools these mortals be So tragic and so funny Ships of bones that sail the sea For lands of milk and honey. The promise of perfection sighs Into each mortal ear Never to be realized That's how it goes round here. Bound to some relentless gyre Dispassionate and true Pay the price for ice and fire That's what God's children do Sacrifice love's mystery For fantasy and pleasure Doomed to repeat history Forever and ever. Wayward world I weep for thee Spinning round the sun Wellspring of diversity Your roads all lead to one What man has loosed upon the sea Cannot be undone Oh what fools these mortals be Each and every one. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Land of Milk and Honey (Eliza Gilkyson) From: MAG Date: 06 Jul 12 - 04:19 PM She uses a lot of religious imagery in her own music - is there a reason there? Bill, is your interview archived anywhere? |
