Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: GUEST,Penguin Egg Date: 31 Mar 04 - 05:15 PM Since Andy is English, I wonder why he is not performing any English folk songs? |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: breezy Date: 31 Mar 04 - 05:18 PM He doesnt sound it when he talks |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: George Papavgeris Date: 31 Mar 04 - 05:42 PM GUEST, Penguin Egg, You could argue then that the ones he has written himself are "English". Not that it matters, he is a performer with worldwide appeal, not for any latent "Irishness", but simply because he is so good. He sings at least one New Zealand and one Greek song as well. And this Greek admires him for what he does with it. |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: Kevin Sheils Date: 01 Apr 04 - 03:06 AM London born maybe but the son of a Scottish father and an irish mother I believe. The name is a bit of a giveaway on the paternal front. Not, as El Greko rightly states, that it matters one bit, he is a fine performer who follows his instincts. Probably just some pointless trolling by PE so I shouldn't have followed up really. |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: GUEST,Ballyholme Date: 01 Apr 04 - 08:38 AM How about "The Blacksmith", PE - English enough for you? |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: breezy Date: 01 Apr 04 - 04:56 PM No 'Empty Handed' but then this CD is of recordings done awhile back methinks. Its more the band and good it is too. |
Subject: RE: Andy Irvine tour news & new CD From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 04 - 12:04 AM Has anyone actually been to see Mosaik play. They have a fantastic line up Donal Lunny, Bruce Molsky, Andy Irvine, Nikola Parov, Rens van der Zalm. Although I think Tony McManus is standing in for Donal on this tour, a very fine musician too! This is the first album from them, although they have toured together before. I hope this is the first of MANY ! I would probably say it is one of the most exciting bands for along while. k Andy Irvine China to Galway |
