Subject: Tech: Wave Breaker for tapes to mp3 From: GUEST,pattyClink Date: 08 Apr 04 - 09:46 AM First, don't jump on me for starting another 'converting tapes to digital' thread. This is about a specific aspect of it. I've done some conversions with MusicMatch and they are cumbersome to do for a whole side of tape. Discovered Blaze Audio has something called Wave Breaker ($10). If you transfer a whole side of tape to a big mp3, Wave Breaker will go in and find the breaks and divide it into separate files. (which means you can name and store the cuts individually, without having to hand-edit each wave file, or spending a year of your life with your finger on the 'pause' button. Anybody tried this yet? Any input on the parent product "Rip, Edit, Burn" from Blaze? Wonder if it's easier to deal with than MusicMatch. I did run a search on both the programs on the forum and did not find anything--so I wondered if Catters are using it but not yakking about it. (no, I guess that's an impossibility, isn't it?) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Wave Breaker for tapes to mp3 From: GUEST,Fred Date: 08 Apr 04 - 11:35 AM I store an LP/8-Track/Cas on the hard drive as a complete continuous file sometimes i allow the entire 8-track tape to be transferred to the HD and then separate into individual tracks... for instance for an LP: Side A: [track 1/track 2/track 3/track 4/track 5/track 6/etc] then I use one of several programs to SPLIT [COPY & SAVE] the file into individual tracks, only takes a few minutes ... using a built in program called Wave Studio on my computer, or the wave editor in NERO COPY program or one called GOLDWAVE [free trial download] and there are others....probably equally as good... ......[begin song 1 - end song 1]....just hi-lite the bracketed example and save to HD... as a1/a2/a3/a4/a5/etc and b1/b2/b3/b4/b5 etc i hand type the track info separately in .txt file 01 - song title 1.wav 02 - song title 2.wav 03 - song title 3.wav 04 - song title 4.wav 05 - song title 5.wav and use split screen method to CUT & PAST the .txt titles and replace the a1/a2/a3/a4/a5 dummy titles works very well for me, and being able to type 60 WPM kinda helps out also... a friend plays one song at a time into the computer and TRIMS and TAGS individually but that is TOO tedious and TIME consuming for me...i prefer the WHOLE BALL OF WAX approach and use the programs above to finish off the job... that way I am not TIED to the RECORDING process... and can do other things till the recording part is complete.. just my way...may not be for everybody |
Subject: RE: Tech: Wave Breaker for tapes to mp3 From: GUEST,pattyClink Date: 09 Apr 04 - 11:14 AM Thanks, Fred. I have used the Nero wave editor to trim a song and recently realized it would work for splitting tracks up. Still enticed by Wave Breaker making that hands-off. And if we could just get elves to read the liner notes and do the typing.... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Wave Breaker for tapes to mp3 From: GUEST,Fred Date: 10 Apr 04 - 01:18 AM ROXIO EZ-CD program has an auto splitter [had - i should say] [they removed it from the latest version but i got it to work using the files from a previous version] SPIN DOCTOR splits nicely [assuming there are ABSOLUTE SILENCE between the songs] ...as most CASSETTE TAPES & 80-TRACKS have... [VINYL of course does not...the stylus drag produces noise between the tracks...] but it simply separates the tracks...leaving any extra space on the fron and end of each track....might be 1/2/3/4/5 seconds etc.. it just splits the existing space... now if there were an AUTO trimmer, that would be great also NERO seems to work best, IF ONLY it would create INDIVIDUAL WAVe Files of the split files.... I save EVERYTHING TO CD in WAVE FORMAT....for later conversion to ANY desired FORMAT... maybe someone can add to this... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Wave Breaker for tapes to mp3 From: weststar Date: 10 Apr 04 - 12:03 PM Have used LP Ripper for years. http://www.cfbsoftware.com/default.htm One program records to the line in on the sound card. the other separates the tracks and converts to other formats. Its not 10 dollars but i think its worth the money for the simplicity and service. |
