Jed Marum is coming to Washington, DC for a House Concert at the O'Malley's at 8:00pm in Kensington Friday, April 16th and an evening show at The Royal Mile Pub in Wheaton, MD, Sunday, April 18th. Jed and I feel that it is a good time for us to take thought for the passing of Rick Fielding. I cannot be at his memorial in June. Jed and I feel that there may be other mudcatters in the DC area that might wish to share some time commemorating our friend Rick. If so, he will make space during the evening of his concert and show for that purpose.

Please respond here. Please pass this message to non or seldom seen catters who might wish to know. Contact me for info/details, Jed in one the road.

chance

Fortunato, lovely idea.

Definitely, a minute of silence and a song from Jed for Rick would be very much welcomed by those of us here who are grieving for Rick.

Beyond that it may depend on how many people in the audience knew Rick, don't you think? Especially if anyone would really like the opportunity to speak, or to sing one of his songs. I can think of a few people who might like to do that, don't know if they'll be in town on those nights and can't speak for them though.

Leave it to a couple of the finest folks I know to come up with this great idea! Never mind that they happen to be two of the finest musicians I know, as well. I will be with you in spirit, my friends.

All the best,

Mick

I wish I could be there. Jed may be a republican, but he is one fine musician. Seriously, I have his Civil War CD and I love it.

Fortunato, Rita, Someone, email the directions to both locations from the 270 Split. I will coming on Friday, if not both nights, from Shepherdstown, WV. Also save me one song, though God knows I'm no singer. Rick and I shared this one the last time he was at the Getaway.

As for pick-ups, I will be coming up Route 340 to Frederick, MD then down Route 270 to the Beltway to Kensington, which I believe is North of Conn Ave.

Email me at moordo@jcdc.jobcorps.org, or call me at work (304) 724-3437 or home (304) 876-0215. Don Moore

Off the Subject: Bill D give me a call, I want to talk to you about doing an arm guard for my Martin K2. Something like the John Pease model, but done in some of the same type of white oak burl wood that you made my vase out of. Thanks

Ah Chance my friend......As the saying goes, "you're a good man Charlie Brown." You and Jed are a real pair and I thank you as I'm sure most other 'Catters do.

I am sure Rick will be there as well with you since we here at Lane, Fielding, Patterson, and Swan....Layabouts-At-Large and For Hire, have arranged Rick to be scheduled for the Presidential gig that week. We are honored to have that account by the way since Bush is so damn good at doing nothing, he's difficult to replace! However we do fill in for him during those times when instead of doing nothing, he's fucking up on a massive scale. We are trying to increase his time as a fuck-up as we also feel this is our best shot at getting him out of office!

From a business standpoint, I have mixed emotions about that I must admit. Not since Reagan have we had anyone so qualified at doing zilch! In any case, we have assigned that week to Rick who is really doing a great job now and I'm sure he'll be there with you and Jed all those DC Catters he enjoyed so much!

I still think I should qualify for the position of "Layabout at large". After all, I get up at 4 am every day so to have a longer day to loaf.

Kendall, I'm confused. There's a four o'clock in the morning?

Have fun! Maybe I'll see Jed again someday and get to hear the new stuff live.

Chance, four o'clock in the morning is when, in mid-summer, the sun starts to rise (and the wee birdies start singing their inconsiderate but cute little heads off) so you know it's time to go to bed.

Jeri, thank you for the explanation. "There's many a bird sung sweet in the morning been ass over head by breakfast time."

Here's the website for the Royal Mile Pub where Jed will be on Sunday the 18th.
http://www.royalmilepub.com/

come for dinner, the food is quite good. Sit near the front window, there's no sound system on Sunday nights.

I am really looking forward to the weekend.

I'm armed with guitar, banjo, my high strung backpaker and a few harmonicas. I'm feeling downright dangerous!

Thanks very much to Chance for all the arrangements!

I am looking forward to seeing as many as possible. It's been a whirlwind trip this time ... lots of driving and plans by the seat of my pants, but it's been fun and I've even managed a short visit with my folks in MA.

See y'all soon!

Just a note to say how much I enjoyed the concert on Friday and the song circle afterwards... Thanks Jed and Chance, Rita, Bill D and the others... Hope the next occasion is a happier one, though I think Rick would have liked it just the way it was done.

like Claymore says, it was a great evening, for both friends of Rick, and for those who simply appreciate Jed's playing and company. The boy is really picking good these days, and the research for the songs he creates brings them to a level not seen in many songwriters.

(hope to see you at the Getaway again some year, Jed)
