Subject: Looking for song called From: Jonathan Date: 06 Oct 98 - 03:31 PM I am trying to find lyrics and information for a song I BELIEVE is called Rosalie. Some lyrics from the refrain are: Rosalie, Rosalie, can I sing you a song And tell you all my secrets And tell you all my thoughts There's nothing I'd like better, and there's nothing I would not do For you, Rosalie. Any information on artist, lyrics and recordings would be very much appreciated. Thanks - Jonathan jkove@sunlife.com or koven@interlog.com |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosalie From: Jim Dixon Date: 26 Apr 05 - 11:44 PM Several people have written songs called ROSALIE: Cole Porter wrote one that has been recorded by Nelson Eddy, Erroll Garner, Al Jolson, Sammy Kaye, Very Lynn, Louis Prima, The Searchers, Artie Shaw, and others. Bob Seger wrote and recorded one. Thin Lizzy also recorded it. Chris Smither wrote and recorded one. Fats Domino recorded one which he wrote with Dave Bartholomew. The Searchers also recorded it. Bobby Bare recorded one that Kurt Hertha and Henry Mayer wrote. Muddy Waters wrote and recorded one. Son Simms also recorded it. Mike Dowling wrote and recorded one. The Kingsmen (of LOUIE LOUIE fame) recorded one that Rockin' Robin Roberts wrote. The Mamou Cajun Band recorded one that is called "traditional." I got this information from allmusic. You might try going there and following links to sound samples, and keep listening to different songs until you recognize the one you want. |
Subject: Lyr Add: ROSALIE (Michael Tarry) From: GUEST,Guest Date: 23 Sep 05 - 01:37 AM "Rosalie" was performed by Michael Tarry in 1973. I have not found it on compact disc, though it may well appear on some seventies compilation or other. Used copies of the 45 single can be bought here and there on the Web. I have transcribed the lyrics. My apologies for any errors. ---------- "Rosalie" Michael Tarry 1973 She was a ballet dancer. With the grace of a dove, She would dance up above In the other room. I would invite her down to tea, But she never would agree. She didn't like my way of doing things; (It)'s not her way. And when the music played, Like arrows in your heart, Bleeding from the start, She meant everything. Make the answer lie within, And your troubles not begin. Can you make it that way for me? (Chorus) Rosalie, Rosalie, can I sing you a song? And tell you all my secrets, And tell you all my thoughts? There's nothing I'd like better And there's nothing I would not do For you, Rosalie. Of all the things we talked about, It would never come across. You would always get so cross And ruin everything. You know I tried my very best? When I did I pleased you less; There's no use in trying anymore. (Chorus repeats) ---------- Michael Tarry was British but performed in Canada. Here's a brief Canadian Pop Encyclopedia entry about him: jam.canoe.ca/Music/Pop_Encyclopedia/T/Tarry_Michael.html The song ascended and descended the Canadian top-30 charts during June and July of 1973, according to this site: www.webfitz.com/lyrics/Charts/1973/Ch197306.html www.webfitz.com/lyrics/Charts/1973/Ch197307.html Hopefully this information will be helpful, if not to the person who inquired so long ago, then to other people who are still searching for "Rosalie". The vocals and rich instrumentation sound lovely even today. They are very representative of their time. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosalie (Michael Tarry) From: GUEST,Geof Date: 29 Mar 12 - 10:04 AM I was in a band with Michael in the 60's and his brother Terry was our manager. That was before we all went our separate ways and Michael recorded Rosalie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosalie (Michael Tarry) From: GUEST Date: 11 Oct 12 - 04:38 PM Michael Tarry also had a beautiful song from the winter of 1969 called "All That I Love" .. very sentimental tune. I have 2 copies of that single along with Rosalie and another hit he had also. As a Canadian collector, our artists particularly from 1970 through 1974 picked up the slack of a declining English and American song writing skills relative to what had transpired in the 60s. Yet, our artists were all but ignored in AMERICA. |

He came to Canada in the late '60's and was signed to Columbia Records for the release of one single in 1969 - All That I Love. This did not chart and Tarry was soon without a label. Fortunately, he signed with WEA Records in 1973, and soon had a career-defining hit with the song Rosalie. This peaked the week of July 7, 1973, at position #12 on the CHUM Charts. |
Subject: RE:song - Rosalie (Michael Tarry) From: GUEST Date: 28 Dec 12 - 07:29 PM Can anyone help me find the song? I have the lyrics but need the song because I named my daughter after that song. As an infant it was this song that came to mind and I sang to her as a fed her. It would be wonderful for her to hear the song she was named after. Has anyone got a clue how to access it? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosalie (Michael Tarry) From: GUEST,Paul Date: 18 Apr 13 - 11:15 AM I had this idea of making a "Where are They Now" video about Micheal Tarry. I always loved that song Rosalie. And in almost the same week I had this idea, I learned he passed away. I am in touch with the family and may still make some kind of video, though not the one I originally intended.
