Subject: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 15 Apr 04 - 04:00 AM HARMONY version 3.2.8 is now available at my web site www.greenhedges.com I think you will be impressed by this version. It now features instant play of notes and chords on the score display, instant play of chords when adding or changing them, and one-finger play of tunes forwards or backwards (by pressing the N or P key for Next or Previous note). Other improvements include remembering the scroll position, and not resetting to the top of the page after each edit, and more font options. |

Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: MudGuard Date: 16 Apr 04 - 09:06 AM Installed and tested yesterday. Works fine (except for that old problem - but the workaround still works) One thing I would like to see in a future version: if more than one note is selected (i.e. in the red frame), lowering/increasing pitch, convert to rest and so on should affect all the selected items. |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 16 Apr 04 - 10:51 AM I will look at it - see if it is possible |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 20 Apr 04 - 01:33 PM It is indeed possible and will be in version 3.2.9 The following edits will be available on every selected note: (they have already been tested) Increase pitch (one step within the key) Decrease pitch (ditto) Make Rest Make (all notes) sharp Make Flat Make Natural Remove accidental (i.e. revert to notes within the key) Make Crotchet Make Quaver Make Semiquaver Make Dotted Make un-dotted Lengthen (each note) by one step Shorten by one step Add Style Make Staccato Make Legato Is there anything else I should put on the list? |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 20 Apr 04 - 01:37 PM By the way, you can already select a number of different notes, not necessarily adjacent, by holding down the shift key when you select. So you could separately select all instances of the note F and then make them all F#, for example. |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: MudGuard Date: 20 Apr 04 - 01:57 PM Sounds good - I think the most important commands are in your list, can't think of any missing one. |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 21 Apr 04 - 04:15 AM A further question. When increasing or decreasing the pitch of a note in this way, or adding accidentals, the chord, if present, is not changed, and will then be wrong. The new chord cannot be calculated independently (at least not at present) Would it be best to a) Remove any chord found on the selected notes b) Leave it alone, and let the user change it? |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 21 Apr 04 - 04:39 AM Just a musical thought... The problem is that any note (or passage of notes) may be 1) fundamental to the key 2) a passing note (and thus not necessarily in the key). 2) seems easy, you probably wouldn't be having chords tied to passing notes (Musically Theoreticaly anyway - Classic Music theory, - 12 tone and 'Modern Music' has different theory), that's why they are called "passing notes". In the theory, they are 'outside' of the basic key of the piece. But Pop Guitar music has 'chord runs' generated by running a barre chord up or down the frets, this is an answer as to why you would want chords tied to such 'theoretically' passing notes. 1) is problematical. Is the note being changed because it was entered wrongly, and the chord related to it generated thus 'wrong for the key'? In such a case, the automatic recalculation of the chord would be desirable. If that is not the case, why are you wanting to change it? If you want to change them to other notes that are 'in the key' already, why would the already generated chord need to be changed, unless you are doing a 'change to related minor' sort of change. Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: pavane Date: 21 Apr 04 - 06:08 AM It would seem safest to remove the chords. One has no idea why any particular note or group of notes is being edited. It could be one of many reasons, e.g. incorrect note in an abc file (Does happen!), create a different version of a tune, create a new tune from an old one... |
Subject: RE: Tech: HARMONY 3.2.8 Now available From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 21 Apr 04 - 06:19 AM As long as the user is aware that any related chord will be deleted, that is probably the safest method - if a chord really is required to be associated with that replaced note, it can then be immediately inserted/generated.
