Subject: Ragg Mopp From: Willy Date: 07 Oct 98 - 01:53 PM I'm looking for this goofy old tune that I remember from the old Beanie and Cecil cartoon show called Ragg Mopp. It was a silly kind of cartoon montage with the title characters, the villian (Dishonest John) etc. Anybody know about it? Anyone got the lyrics? The tune's just an uptempo blues prog., but it really jumps and would be a great "fun"tune. Thanks. Willy. |
Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: Gene Date: 07 Oct 98 - 02:38 PM If you are referring to the original oldie- Rag Mop by Johnny Lee Wills (Covered by The Mills Bros. and several others) or the parody by Alan Sherman: Rat Fink as Billy Swan said...I can help... |
Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: Willy Date: 07 Oct 98 - 04:57 PM Gene Great! I'd actually be interested in both if that's alright. I didn't realize there was an "original" vs a parody. Looking forward. Thanks again. Willy |
Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: jester@buncombe.main.nc.us Date: 08 Oct 98 - 03:13 AM I'm pretty sure the Wills mentioned above was Fiddlin' Bob's brother. I'm also pretty sure that this song has been discussed here before( you might search through the archives, 'tho I'm not sure how. This song has on occasion made it into Richard Thompson's encore list. JESTER! (not jokin'!) |

Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: Sandy Date: 08 Oct 98 - 08:01 AM I once replied to an advert in the Manchester Evening News that had a mopp head for sale. I phoned the vendor who told me he wanted £300 for it. My first reaction was, "do you mean there's only one?" and the second obviously concerned the price. He was adamant that it was well kept. I still told him that the price was ridiculous. I'd pay no more than a couple of quid. He got angry. He told me I wouldn't be able to buy even a scrap moped for a couple of quid. Moped! Didn't I feel silly. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: Willy Date: 17 Oct 98 - 11:23 PM After reading the aforementioned thread on this little ditty, allow me to offer my thanks, both for the lyrics (silly as they are), and my assurances that in the future I'll try to be more sensitive to the tender sensibilties of the folk purists. But I have to admit; I find the tune both annoying in the extreme, yet ... somehoww..must ...sing!!! AGGGGGGGGHHHHH! |
Subject: RE: Ragg Mopp From: Ritchie Date: 18 Oct 98 - 09:36 AM Hey , this is spooky...I've just been in the HMV record store (is it ok to advertise on the net or should I have written 'a well known big record chain store' ?)in Newcastle who are having a MEGA SALE and believe it or not just seen a copy of a cd by the Aimes Bros which has amongst other songs Rag Mopp on it and ...wait for it ...for the remarkable price of £1.99. Dilema ! is it worth it ? should i buy it for my collection ? will i regret it ? and if the answer is yes will it still be there tomorrow lunchtime ? Ritchie in the North |
