Does anyone have an MP3 that they can post of this song. All my friends keep asking me if I know the tune and I'm sorry to say that I never heard it.I understand that it is one of the top tunes on all the radio programs today and they tell me about the millions of copies that have already been sold, but again I never listen to the radio or other programs on TV.I'm sorry if I offended anyone with this silly request but I will certainly appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks in advance Louie Roy

It's a little simpler to go to the website:

josh-turner.com

Part of the song plays in that page. Look around the site and you will also find it as a clip.

The video is shown on CMT.

I guess it's not folk, but it seems pretty close. Interesting song. I think it should be posted.

Long Black Train
Artist: Josh Turner
Album: Long Black Train

There's a long black train
Coming down the line
Feeding off the souls that are lost and crying
Tails of sin only evil remains
Watch out brother for that long Black Train

Look to the heavens
You can look to the skies
You can find redemption
staring back into your eyes
There is protection and there is
peace the same burn in your ticket for that
Long Black Train

'cause there's victory in the lord i say
Victory in the lord
Cling to the father and his holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

There's an engineer on that long black train
making you wonder if your ride is worth the pain
He's just a waitin on your heart to say
let me ride on that long black train

but you know there's victory in The Lord I say
victory in The Lord
Cling to the father and His holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

Well I can hear the whistle from a mile away
it sounds so good
but I must stay away
that train is a beauty making everybody stare
but its only destination is the middle of nowhere

But you know theres victory in The Lord I say
victory in The Lord
Cling to the father and His holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

I said cling to the father and His holy name and don't go ridin on that black train
yes watch out brother for that long black train
the devil's a ridin that long black train.

No, it's not folk, it's country.

But much of country is folk, or at least there is a very fine line, sometimes invisable to the naked eye.

Country and bluegrass are folky enough for me.

Turner also has some other pretty decent songs on his CD, though I would consider Long, Black Train the best. In one of my other favorites, "Jacksonville", he rymes "gonna" and "Florida". Reminds one of Lefty Frizzell in that respect, and that's not all that bad, in my book. Thanks to Josh Turner, Elizabeth Cook, and Laura Cantrell, maybe country music has a future as country music instead of 1970s rock.

I haven't heard the song, but from the title wondered if it was related to the Carter Family's Little Black Train

Close enough for folk musicologists to link them, I'd say.

Joe, a couple of errors- I think!

1st verse, line 3:
Rails of sin, only evil remains (not Tails)

2nd verse, lines 3-4:
There is protection and there's peace the same:
Burnin' your ticket for that long black train.

Last verse, lines 3-4:
Yeah, watch out brother for that long black train.
That devil's drivin' that long black train. (not ridin')

My ear isn't too good, but I found these lyrics which seem to support what I heard:
Long Black Train

Carter Family Little Black Train-
Verse 6, line 4:
And the little black train in sight (not site)

Mis-spelled sometimes in the threads as well (31582, 56422)
