Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Splott Man Date: 27 Apr 04 - 07:52 AM Yes Roger. All King's Rd still standing, a lot of bedsits still. The top end is a bit like Chelsea was in the 60s, trendy cafes, antique shops etc. Can't speak for your old flat though. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 27 Apr 04 - 04:35 AM We are taking Sorcha to Sharps tonight....anyone else going?? |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: breezy Date: 27 Apr 04 - 04:29 AM and there's also Dan Mckinnon with George Papavgeris and Johnny Collins at the Duke of Marlborough tonight opposite the Abbey Station in St Albans. St Albans is always worth a visit cos its old too. Enjoy Sharps if you go, it was fun there last week, very good atmosphere. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 27 Apr 04 - 04:19 AM Is King's Road, Canton still standing? I spent 3 years in "digs" there, 1963-1966, number 118, opposite the local broth..., er, opposite a house where two young ladies in skimpy clothes had a succession of male visitors, while their toddlers were put outside to play in the gutter... Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Leadfingers Date: 24 Apr 04 - 07:04 PM Castell Coch is well worth the three quid admission charge- Its got to be the FINEST Victorian Folly I have ever seen . Thanks again for the reccomendation Sian. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: sian, west wales Date: 24 Apr 04 - 02:00 PM Nice to have you over, too, L'fingers & Sorcha, although I was worried that an extra 70 (70, L'fingers!) miles would be a bit much for you at the end of the long day ...! So, did you actually get to stop at Castell Coch? sian |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Gareth Date: 23 Apr 04 - 05:09 PM Both Bars S but as I was on a tight time schedule I suspect I were running a head of yer. Ah well next time ! Gareth |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Apr 04 - 04:41 PM My thanks to Sian - We had a very pleasant evening despite having to leave the Canton while the session was still on ( Being a tightfisted and impoverished musician I would rather drive a hundred miles than pay an arm and a leg for B&B). We had a pleasant drive back to London via Castell Coch which has to be the finest Victorian Folly I have ever seen. Sorcha is now back with Micca and Cats and I am home Knackered. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Sorcha Date: 23 Apr 04 - 03:05 PM Gareth, were you in the front bar? We were in the back bar at the Conway. Hope so, CD! Back in London now for the week. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Crane Driver Date: 23 Apr 04 - 10:28 AM Sorry I couldn't make it, guys - I was in Doncaster attending to the day job. I did pass through Cardiff on the way home, but it was about 10:30 so I decided to keep going. Especially as I hadn't picked up any of the above about where you might be! Sampling every pub in Cardiff is a task for a fitter man than I! I'll try to meet up with you somewhere Andrew |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Splott Man Date: 23 Apr 04 - 10:21 AM We'll protect you Gareth. |

Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: sian, west wales Date: 22 Apr 04 - 07:59 PM Hmmmm, Gareth. We were at the Conway just after 8 PM. Our server for dinner was late, but Sian was there just a tad after 8. Leadfingers and I were there by 8:15. Wonder what happened? Sorry. We had a nice chat at the Conway, then moved to the other pub just before 10. Played a few tunes, and then came back to Sian's place for the night. Leaving Cardiff for London tomorrow sometime. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Gareth Date: 22 Apr 04 - 06:56 PM Well I'll bve damned - There I was at the Conway, 8 pm nothing that resembled a Mudcat meet. The Canton 8.20 dito, but a rather intersting sesion in the making - but no knowledge of the 'Cat. Regret I had to be back in Ystrad Mynach by 9.45 pm Sorcha - If I missed yer - Well Sorry !!! Gareth |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Nigel Parsons Date: 22 Apr 04 - 02:17 PM Refresh: Where? |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 22 Apr 04 - 11:24 AM oops that's the one, after a few bevvies the names all slurr into one.... hic :-) Anyone told Sorcha or Sian about above? Sian prob won't see this as she's on the road according to the above. Her number is on there too. Ella |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Gareth Date: 22 Apr 04 - 10:57 AM Nah ! The "Corporation" is that big pub next to the crazy junction. In its hey days some 10 or more years ago I ysed to recruit "repo teams" there. Gareth |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Splott Man Date: 22 Apr 04 - 10:56 AM No goss really. The new landlord simply forgot to reapply for the licence, so they moved rather than have to wait. I don't know what the current licence situation is there. The big pub on the corner is The Corporation (used to house a folk club 30 years ago), the Canton is a smaller unassuming building up the side street about 10 yards (or metres in new money). Interesting enough, the Clocs Canton lot now go to The Cayo in Cathedral Rd on a Thursday because the beer in the Conway went iffy during the summer. Their musoes sometimes have a sesh as well. We're spoiled for choice really! Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 22 Apr 04 - 08:45 AM Heilo Splott man... Coo... why did it have to move? Never particularly liked the tiny spot given over to musicians in the Conway anyways, it was an odd corner. The Canton is probably betterer... isn't it that big one on the corner? Next to the crazy junction? Or am I thinking of another one? It's been in the Conway for so many years (now THAT could be the problem). I'll have to tell me pals. But what's the gossip? Hywl Ella |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Splott Man Date: 22 Apr 04 - 07:57 AM Shw mae Sian. I'll try and be there to say hello. The Conway session had to move a couple of weeks ago to The Canton Hotel, Llandaff Rd, just off Cowbridge Rd (which is the main road west out of Cardiff). I don't know if that will affect your plans. You could just have a sesh of your own of course. regards Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Gareth Date: 22 Apr 04 - 05:49 AM I shall levitate from my sick bed and venture down the valley into dark and dangerous Pontcanna. Gareth |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Sorcha Date: 22 Apr 04 - 05:40 AM We've been puter less for a few days. In Boscastle today, we WILL be there! See you this evening! |
Subject: RE: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 22 Apr 04 - 05:04 AM Hi Sian... As I explained in my pm. I won't be able to join you. I don't want to put the reason up here. But if you would kindly explain to Sorcha for me please that would be fab. I hope you have a good night, sorry to be a party pooper, I'd be there if I could. Love a bit of a bash! Regards Ella |

Subject: Sorcha in Cardiff? From: sian, west wales Date: 21 Apr 04 - 05:05 PM Well, I don't know where our girl has got herself to! Sorcha, if you can 'hear' this ... I'll be in the Conway pub, Conway Rd, Pontcanna, Cardiff around 8 p.m. Thurs night. I'll try to get my paws on the 'company phone' (07811 955592 - and yes, I know I shouldn't put number on the web but ...) as I'll be travelling from about 11 a.m. onwards! Hope we do get to see each other! siân |
