tonight at 9pm on BBC4, starting at 9pm we have John Mayalls 70th birthday concert from Liverpool. Guests include Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor.
Straight after this there is a documentary about the man himself, with comments from Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, etc. and talks about his beginning in the blues breakers in the 60's up to now.

Then right after this is the second martin scorsese blues documentary, Red White and Blues, and follows on from the delta blues of last week.
This week we look at the british blues scene in the 60's with rolling stones, spencer davis group and the animals and then moving onto john mayall, fleetwood mac, etc.

It should be a great night of stuff, im gonna tape it all.

BBC4 is on freeview and also sky digital.

have fun

Saw that program. It is very good. Chris Barber looked a bit out of place in his suit though.

Saw J Mayall live in Bham just after Eric Clapton left and Peter Green took over. It was amazing.

I saw the Red,White & Blue program last night on BBC4. Enjoyed it a lot. Today, with the huge number of cds,the internet and satellite tv, it is hard to imagine what it was like in the early 60s when imported records were scarce and national radio was even more limited than it is now. It must have been quite a revelation when those american performers arrived in the UK.

I also liked Tom Jones talking about his Joe Meek experience, and how Lonnie Donegan and Ramblin' Jack Elliot seemed so fond of each other.

Saw the doc. and bits of the concert, old guys RULE (as Matt R would say).
BTW Mick Taylor and Albert Lee are at Jagz Ascot UK (separately) soon (see www.jagz.co.uk). Peter Green was there a few months ago (SHE is still wearing the T-shirt!).

Talk about your past flashing before your eyes!

Wish I had sussed out how to video from cable. I will just have to buy the DVDs and the CD set that they have produced to accompany the series.

And there's more to come!

Alan

yes indeed. i must get that dvd of the concert.

luckily my dad wired my video, dvd and freeview box up in such a way that i can record off the tv, freeview or advd. so thats pretty cool.

i must get the full concert, because i want to see Hideaway, if they did that.

I saw Peter Green last year with the Splinter Group, and also have the dvd of the show. the first half was acoustic and the second half electric.
albatross closed the acoustic set and was brilliant.

i hear they might be touring the UK again this year so i will keep an eye out.
havent seen the documentary yet but i saw bits and bobs, will watch the recording later today probably.

I heard the eric Clapton gig on my car stereo, it was good, he did all the old classics, Layla, Wonderful Tonight etc.
Some good stuff played tonight on the Bob Harris show as well, Fleetwood mac etc, there is a competition to win 3 Special edition Fleetwood Mac Double CD's, have a look at the website, qustions are fairly easy.
