Subject: Me and my new guitar From: Jeep man Date: 25 Apr 04 - 11:06 PM For a good while I have wanted a second guitar. Yes my Martin is just fine, my banjo is great. I have wanted one to play blues, maybe some slide. A guitar that could take a scratch or two, shrug off spilled drinks and dingshangs. I looked for a long time. Last week, I examined my expectations in this axe. It does not have to be a "Name" guitar. I don't care if it is made of pine slabs so long as it sounds good. I would love the old funky sounds we used to hear on the old Kays, Stellas, and Silvertones. So I found it. Washburn JN300s. No Frills. Plays very well. The sound is really great considering I only paid.$200. Is it too much to pay? I don't care. Is it too little? I think it is a buy. Most of all, I like it. I can take it anywhere and don't have to treat it like a prima donna. I think I did all right. Jim |
Subject: RE: Me and my new guitar From: Once Famous Date: 25 Apr 04 - 11:11 PM Hey, sometimes it's more fun to drive my '89 Chevy instead of my '03 Toyota. But when, the novelty wears off, you will still have a cheap Asian guitar. |

Subject: RE: Me and my new guitar From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 26 Apr 04 - 06:28 AM Mooman ......... never played a guitar on the beach, in a tent, listening to the sound of lukewarm rain on the canvas ! ...... Boy you've never lived !! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Me and my new guitar From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 26 Apr 04 - 09:18 AM I played an import for years and made lots of money with it. The idea tha a folkies guitar has to be more expensive than his home is a product of the 60's. If you like the box, buy it! Besides a Martin we also have a yardsale special - 20 bucks - which I play all the time |

Subject: RE: Me and my new guitar From: Mudlark Date: 26 Apr 04 - 01:40 PM Jim...congratulations. $200 is not too much to pay for a guitar you like the sound of, esp. if compared to your Martin. I've been looking for just such a guitar. It gets so hot here in the summer that I'm reluctant to take my Martin with me anywhere if I have to leave it in the car for any length of time. If I can find a guitar that sounds good to me for $200 I'll snap it up in a minute. Have fun with your new guitar (and that's what my local string shop calls it...a beach house guitar, tho we're 40 mi. from the ocean, on the hot side of the coastal range). |
Subject: RE: Me and my new guitar From: Jeep man Date: 26 Apr 04 - 11:11 PM I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one that think that Price and Good sound do not always go together. Thanks guys, Jeep |
