Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: terrier Date: 12 Sep 10 - 04:02 PM Hi JennyO, I've just read the other Bromyard thread. Rather sad state of affairs. I don't think it's just Bromyard, but just about any town centre on a weekend, festival or not. I agree it's getting harder to find session pubs / venues these days, but as a session person myself, I hate the idea of playing 'behind closed doors' so to speak. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: GUEST,JennyO Date: 12 Sep 10 - 11:38 AM Terrier, the idea was that we would try and start a session somewhere, since we had already looked all over for sessions unsuccessfully the rest of the weekend. We posted that on the Bromyard thread which we started some time ago in hopes of finding a session somewhere now that the Hop Pole is no longer a pub. Two years ago there were some great sessions in there. Unfortunately it seems that many of the Mudcatters that used to go have gone somewhere else this year - probably Swanage. Next year we may join them. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: terrier Date: 12 Sep 10 - 11:09 AM From: GUEST,JennyO - PM Date: 12 Sep 10 - 07:35 AM One thing is for sure - there are precious few of them here in Bromyard this weekend :( (Jenny O, who is sitting in an almost empty pub with Rob, waiting for a few singers to turn up. So far, nobody :( ) -------------- Now if I'd have attended Bromyard festival, I wouldn't have seen your post, so I wouldn't know you were sitting in a pub, possibly the same pub as I might be sitting in waiting for some singers to turn up. Try another room ;) Anyone going to Ingleton in a few weeks, I'll be there in my disguise as a human. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: katlaughing Date: 23 Jul 06 - 07:17 PM I just listened to a tape I made off of HearMe, back in the day, ya know, of Spider Tom in Australia. I wondered what has happened to 2 of the prettiest and brightest young women that once posted here and if they have kept up with their music: NicoleC and Barky. Oh, I would also like to know what has happened to other people, including some of the older and not-so-pretty lost Mudcatters too. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Jeri Date: 12 Oct 04 - 02:02 PM Unc, you're still a member. Is it possible you've got the password wrong, or just a bit off? The automatic e-mail you're supposed to get from the log-in page which sends you your EXISTING user name and password hasn't worked for a couple of years and I'm not sure why it's still there. Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: GUEST,Scorned and Rejected Uncle Jaque in Maine... Date: 12 Oct 04 - 01:43 PM Well Ahoy again! I'ts been a while apparently before recently drifting back in to post a couple of music related thingies of late. Now I can't log in to get re-cookied, as the 'Cat won't accept the username and PW I'd used for years, and when I give it my E-dress to send a new PW that might actually allow me back on board, said PW never seems to materialize. I'll have to make sure my SPAM filter isn't erroniously blocking it I guess. Have sort of been out of the music circut lately for a number of reasons, but I miss it and look forward to getting back. Was getting right into it a few years back, and then came 9/11/01, at which time it seemed appropriate to revisit an old hobby that at the time had been collecting dust in the cellar. So I have renewed my Membership in a local Fish & Game Club, and try to visit the rifle range fairly regularly so as to keep up certain tactical survival skills, shall we say. Probably not a really popular avocation or topic in here, so we'll let it go at that. But I've been lurking and contributing to other forums relating to that and other areas of interest more than hanging around here as I was once wont to do. But the banjo is not completely unstrung; I continue to collect and noodle around with 19th Century music. most of what I can get my hands on tends to be Hymns and Gospel Music, but that's OK by me. We see that a few veteran "Catters lament that no one seems to have missed 'em; in my case, I would rather expect that my absence would have been more cause for celebration than regret! - so I'll try to tread a little more lightly than I may have in the past, when I was know to fling a political skunk into the locker room when things seemed a bit boringly pacific around here. Sort of like Church, in which I used to be active - as long as allowed back in as a "Guest" now and then, I'll poke me beak in for a peek & see what's up with the old Mudcat on occasion. Although I seem to be no longer deemed worthy of "cookies", it appears that I have yet to be banished entirely. UJ |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Jun 04 - 11:29 AM I always appreciate when CatterPals let me know they are going to be away. :~) One alternative-- In the Red Cross, one of my jobs was to process emergency communications for families of members of the Armed Services. One category of these command-authorized messages was "Health & Welfare." The criteria was, has the service member NOT been in communication within their regular pattern of frequency? Here's a message like the commanding officer would get for one of those: "Service mother Lulabelle Whatisfolk requests H&W for serviceperson PFC Junior Whatisfolk SSN 000-00-0000. Service mother is concerned, and states serviceperson normally calls home monthly. Service mother reports last contact was March of this year. Service mother can be reached by return Red Cross message and by phone 000-555-3857." The CO receiving this will do two things-- 1. Send for that person to personally deliver THIS message: "PFC Whatisfolk! In WHY did you fail to call your MOTHER!" 2. Depending on Junior's answer, message back the status of the service member, such as: "CO of serviceperson Junior Whatisfolk reports that serviceperson is alive and on active duty. CO has authorized phone home." OR If Junior tells the CO how COME s/he ain't been phoning home (sometimes Junior left home to get AWAY from bad people), then all they get might be, "CO reports that service member is alive and is on active duty." Cuz in the military, it's generally expected that only an idiot fails to tend the homefire, and "Sir, I need to call home, please" is almost always honored, no questions asked, unless the unit is under fire or unless the serviceperson's morale is better served by severing ties. ~Susan |

I don't necessarily notice when someone's not here. ("They haven't posted since last YEAR!? I thought it was last week!") It also means that it takes too much concentration for me to remember to stay mad at anybody, and I don't like being mad anyway. One person I'm worried about is Roger in Baltimore. He said he was coming to Rick's memorial concert, and he never showed, and never said he wasn't going to come. It's fine if he just changed his mind, but I'd really like to know if he's OK. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Genie Date: 12 Jun 04 - 11:48 AM Rev and Amos, Sonja W. Oates is alive and well. I just talked to her the other day and she may even be visiting Áine's Song Challenge!s again soon. Ya never know when and where she'll show up. As for Alex (Mousethief), somewhere I have the e-dress for his wonderful website. I think it's posted here too. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: katlaughing Date: 12 Jun 04 - 10:12 AM I think you're thinking of Roger the Skiffler. I've been wondering about Bert Hansell, lately. Hope he is doing okay. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Jun 04 - 09:16 AM Thanks Gervase - I'm amazed. You are certainly one of those whom I would hope catch my drift, but I always assume that at Mudcat nobody does. However, I must say I think jOhn is pretty good value, on balance. (OK, I admit it took me quite a while to reach this conclusion.) I certainly warmed to his robust defence of himself after Amergin's unpleasant comments. What happened to Roger in Sheffield? Maybe Kat knows, as I seem to recall they had some rapport? He was only a few miles up the road from me but I never got to meet him. He seems to have disappeared off the radar around the same time as the demise of the Harlequin in Sheffield, whose sessions he attended. On the other side of the coin, I am delighted to have discovered, only today, that Michael K/MK/Michael K etc lived on in the cafe as Justa Picker. My own visits are now too infrequent for me to have noticed the transition. Anyway, I can now go and order Justa Picker's acclaimed CD knowing that I will actually be getting Michael Kaye's phenomenal fingerpicking. (Not to mentioned Rick Fielding's mandolin and dobro.) Apparently I will also be supporting Mudcat in the process. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: darkriver Date: 02 May 04 - 01:32 AM gee, sorry Paul. How does that song go? "How can I miss you when you won't go away?" Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 30 Apr 04 - 09:14 PM Gervase-Just a thought, but I can't help wondering why, if you don't like my threads, why is it that you read and post to them? [The last post you made, apart from this one, was to the one I started in praise of the Astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, where you insulted him] Answer is simple, you don't like my threads, don't read them. Just done a quick trace on your posting history, at a guess, 75 % of your posts are BS. I buy a newspaper every day, there are various sections that don't interest me at all, [horoscopes, problem page etc etc], I simply don't read those sections. john |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Gervase Date: 30 Apr 04 - 03:40 PM I've managed to put a stopper on my logorrhoea for the past year or so - partly because I no longer have unfettered access to the internet when I should be working, partly because of imbeciles like John from Hull cluttering up the place with inanities and mostly because I have tried to curb my desire to let rip at the naivete/stupidity/bellicosity or whatever that seems to infect so many of the posters here (both British and American) on the war. Ostrich-like behaviour, maybe, but I find the issue genuinely depressing, and to give vent to my true feelings would, I fear, lose me the respect of any who know me here. Thus I prefer to keep my own counsel and keep away from the keyboard. There are still those I respect, like and admire - musical friends like Morticia that I know in real life, and people whose views I respect but who I've never met, like PeterT, Amos and Fionn - but otherwise the signal-to-noise ratio here has gone downhill. Now that Gargoyle bloke - there's someone to whom I find myself increasingly drawn! |

I lament the leaving of solid American Folk enthusiasts such as Mr.BSeed....and their replacment by the likes of overseas Jaques, critters, idjets, and the forlorn wives of preacher's and cops.
It is fun to spin the way-back machine...and re-live....the paths of glory.
It is even more fun spinning mischief in more furtile grounds.

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Allan C. Date: 27 Apr 04 - 02:48 PM I received a PM about three years ago from Frank in the Swamps. Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: wysiwyg Date: 27 Apr 04 - 12:19 PM People travel, move, get new jobs without computer access, take on new responsibilities, have livestock illnesses or farm conditions.... ya never know. And two months can be a heartbeat when you are caught up in a new love or some other inspiration. But asking here makes sense. Someone usually turns out to have an email addy or a way to look into the matter. Never hurts to collect snail addresses either. Because I lose so much paper, and have so many files and folders on the puder, I keep some of them in a PM I sent myself or I'll ask for a snail address and title the PM so the reply is easy to spot in a long list of saved messages. You might be surprised how many regulars lurk and don't post for a long time. I PM folks like that sometimes and am always surprised how many of them promptly reply that they are either bored or disgusted with the threads! And some people really do most of their Catting in PMs, not in threads. ~Susan |

The Mother of All BS Threads is quickly approaching its first birthday and the idiot genius who inspired the thing is nowhere to be found! The King of Mississippi (khandu) has been silent since early February. It is reminiscent of the Great Silence that occurred between early August and mid-November of last year when khandu was also not to be heard from. Well, there are the ransom notes from the radicals who claim to have his sorry ass held captive in Toledo, Ohio, but they're probably spurious. Then there's always the possibility that he's incapacitated due to complications of pregnancy. Getting knocked up by aliens can do that to ya. Or, he may just be being a dipshit. |

Subject: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: GUEST Date: 27 Apr 04 - 11:22 AM When a Mudcatter does not post for several months, I often wonder what happened to them. We all have our favorites that we look for. The best way to check for recent activity is to click on their name in an earlier post (after a name search) and see when they posted last on the list of all their posts. If the post has been several months or more, I start to wonder. So let's use this thread to ask: Where is or what happened to....? Where is NicoleC? |
