Subject: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 27 Apr 04 - 12:47 PM Put this one in your diaries folk people Wednesday 16th - Sunday 20th June 2004 The Knockholt (mini) Midsummer Festival. Mudcatters welcome. It's in Kent not far from bromle/Sevenoaks. I will post more details and a map soon! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 27 Apr 04 - 07:05 PM Been in my diary since last year. Is Avril going? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 28 Apr 04 - 06:04 AM We haven't seen much of her since she got offered a lift (to Catford) while trying to hitch to Miskin at Easter - after we 'forgot' to pick her up. She's definitely 'going' - like the clappers with this 6' 6", out-of-work brickie ! Why do you want us to tell her that you're interested Richard ? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dipsodeb Date: 28 Apr 04 - 06:05 AM I hope so can't wait to meet the infamous Avril, maybe we could swop girly talk on the pros and cons of support bras for us larger ladies. LOL ;-) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dead Horse Date: 28 Apr 04 - 07:00 AM So she is into bra wearing now? About time too. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 18 May 04 - 05:45 PM Only 4 weeks to go folks - here's some more info Knockholt 2004 |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,mexican Date: 18 May 04 - 06:28 PM I am sure looking forward to meeting you gringos again. had a great time last year. Is Joe Bazouki playing again? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 18 May 04 - 06:57 PM Perhaps Dipsodeb could contact Joe Bazouki, I'm sure he'll come if he's not gigging with The Ukelele Orchestra. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 18 May 04 - 08:01 PM Will post some pictures from last year when Dave Kenningham sends them to me. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 May 04 - 05:12 AM If there's any beer left after our BBQ, I'll re-prime it and bring it along. How do people feel about using the PA with the radio mic for the Saturday night session round the bonfire ? - it worked well when we used it at the second Knockholt last year. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 May 04 - 05:26 AM What about instruments? Personally I prefer no amps - amps encourage pople to talk. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 19 May 04 - 05:36 AM Micky Forde tells me that there is an agreement with the farmer that no PA will be used. We should really respect that. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 May 04 - 05:55 AM No-one can claim that my voice lacks power, but I found it quite a push to be heard at last year's June Saturday night. When we used the radio mic at the autumn session (which had a lot less people) it made many singers audible who would otherwise have not been heard. What I'm talking about is only light sound re-inforcement - 2 x 30w - most car sound systems are more powerful than that. If people don't want to use the mic they don't have to. I'm about the only person who often chooses not to use the PA at The Tudor Barn, Star & Garter, Beacon sessions - where the acoustics are much easier. In fact at one time Sue and Mick used a radio mic and amp at the "Rising Sun" sessions. I don't think that the farmer does actually have any problem with a small PA. Pam & Paul Button (who live in the big house over the road) told us that he's actually said that he wished he could hear more of the music - I'll get them to sound him out about it. I can understand that he wouldn't want a 1,000 watt rig though. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 May 04 - 10:48 AM Dave, even at your barbies there have been problems with the little rig with people getting too close to the mic, or whatever, and producing the purest 60 watts of distortion. This can be avoided if someone wants to sit at the desk all night turning things up and down, but it's a bit of a bummer for that person, and it does sort of unfolk the process a bit. I thought the Buttons lived at the big house opposite the end of the lane on the "main" road. If they want to hear it all, that means my 4K rig and a hefty power supply too (just joking). |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 19 May 04 - 05:23 PM I think It would probably be best to let the FolkMob committee (if there still is one!) decide on this. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 May 04 - 05:27 PM Woodsie, UR right |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,mexican Date: 19 May 04 - 05:38 PM Unfotunately Joe Bazouki will be playing with the Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain in Cambridge that weekend. Any other suggestions for guest performers welcome. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 19 May 04 - 06:53 PM It's a shame that Joe can't make it. Still we've got Dave Kenningham. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 May 04 - 07:09 PM If he remembers... |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 19 May 04 - 11:11 PM Richard you're up late! My excuse is that I'm working nights at Kensington delivery office. They have casual workers sorting, I am there to oversee - that leaves plenty of time to waste on the computer. I'm trying to persuade our lot to get a minibus for 29th at your place. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 20 May 04 - 05:14 AM For a minute I mis-read the above as "Kenningham delivery office". |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Amos Date: 20 May 04 - 02:30 PM Blast 'em. lads!! :>) A |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 20 May 04 - 07:56 PM Kenningham delivery office! Help! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 21 May 04 - 05:46 PM Here's the reply from the folmob Secretary re use of PA: Hi Mick, Sue and Mike were not happy about any PA this year. Except for a pignose perhaps. We decided it would destroy the atmosphere. Much better sitting around the fire with acoustic stuff. Dave K |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 21 May 04 - 05:54 PM Here's a Photograph from last year. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 May 04 - 06:45 PM Hey! I think I can see me! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,John Date: 22 May 04 - 02:32 AM And me! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Edward Date: 23 May 04 - 06:16 PM D the K is about to enter this thread! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 23 May 04 - 06:58 PM Where art thou? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 24 May 04 - 05:08 AM Paul and Pam Button have had a word with the farmer about the use of PA. He has no objections at all, provided we don't use such a great amount of power that we upset the people in the house over the road. The rig that I was suggesting is only 30w per channel (most car sound systems produce more power), so I don't think that there would be the slightest danger of that. What I am suggesting is not so much PA, as sound reinforcement for anyone who wants to use it. I'd only use a couple of radio mics which could either be hand held or on a stand. At the autumn event last, it made it possible to hear performers who otherwise would have been inaudible in spite of the fact that the background noise level was considerably lower than the better attended June event. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 25 May 04 - 05:10 AM Incidently, is there a committee for Knockholt these days - and if so, who's on it ? BTW - Linda and I are hoping to bring Vikki (Yorkshire Yankee) to the Tudor Barn tomorrow night - who's planning to be there ? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dipsodeb Date: 25 May 04 - 06:52 PM There is no seperate committee for Knockholt Dave we organise it between the members of the Folk Mob Committee. I usually organise the entertainment stuff/Bar and wood, Mick and Sue organise the loos and the field and Richard organises the money and Dave oversees in general. ~Debs~ |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST Date: 30 May 04 - 04:43 PM Dave does what? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST Date: 06 Jun 04 - 09:37 AM |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,mexican Date: 07 Jun 04 - 10:23 AM @Ello Gringoes! - Ihopetosee you all at knockholt this year. Ihope the weather is as good as it was last year. Bring out the Tech - E lar. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 08 Jun 04 - 07:17 AM I should be bringing three and a half gallons of homebrew - named "Knockers" from the remains of the beer from Sunday's barbecue - I did think of calling it "Fuzz". |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 08 Jun 04 - 05:55 PM Excellent Dave. We shall have the Saturday free shared bar as usual for as long as it lasts - so any contributions from elsewhere (ie, that wine we won in the raffle and will never drink will be appreciated). The good thing about Knockholt is that it never changes - peaceful surroundings - a real decent pub five minutes walk away (or 3 if you rush)- a real chance to get away from it all. I said it would be great weather etc last year and the photo of Saturday night shows what a great time we had.I am sure that it will be repeated in a couple of weeks. How about a singing workshop this year - or a short talk on the history of folk music in the area. PS thanks for a great day on Sunday.I have just put some photo's on my pages - does bring back memories!!. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 12 Jun 04 - 01:48 AM Get your stuff ready only 4 days to go! Guest band on the Saturday will be "Walking The Witch" |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 12 Jun 04 - 01:49 PM refresh |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Posh Bloke Date: 13 Jun 04 - 08:51 AM Do you lot sing in tune? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 13 Jun 04 - 11:47 AM Please come along and find out. Posh Bloke we look forward to meeting you. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Posh Bloke Date: 13 Jun 04 - 06:24 PM I've heard about you... I think, are yoe the same Dave K. that's world famous in Eltham? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 13 Jun 04 - 06:48 PM Please bring along a tuner - just in case! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 14 Jun 04 - 03:06 AM Now you know it's hard to sing with a stiff upper lip! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jun 04 - 04:39 AM Richard, I don't think it was your upper lip that was stiff at last year's do - from what Dilligaf had to say ! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Rod Stone Date: 14 Jun 04 - 10:15 AM Sounds great is there a hotel nearby? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jun 04 - 12:23 PM The whole idea of Knockholt is that it's in the country. You could probably find a hotel at Sevenoaks, or a Pub with accommodation, but why not come and camp with the rest of us - Linda & I have a couple of spare tents which we could lend, and I thought that every "folkie" owned a sleeping bag. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 14 Jun 04 - 07:28 PM Not worth staying in a hotel - It is more exciting watching the stars turn around the sky - Take up Dave and Linda's offer and stay in the field. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jun 04 - 04:59 AM Dave K - the way that you traditionally end up on the Saturday night / Sunday Morning - it's not just the stars that are turning round - it's the field, the tents, the caravans, the camp fire . . . . . |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dipsodeb Date: 15 Jun 04 - 07:32 AM I should think that it's the one thing we can guarantee. Just brought the ingredients for the knockholt Knockout punch and Hubble Bubble lots of trouble what a brew I'll mix for you. Actually I thought we might mix countries of origin too, we have Mohitas from Cuba and Tequila Slammers from Mexico the punch of course is traditonally South East London. I hope we find just the right tunes to compliment the Bar. Yep it's going to be another Saturday Night that might just dim into the ether..... LOL ~Debs~ |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,jupiter Date: 15 Jun 04 - 09:32 AM Can't wait! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:00 AM Are you bringing all your moons with you as well ? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,jupiter Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:12 AM Well,DK & Colin may be there and of course Pat Mooney also I hear Woodsie has been scalped, so we can shine a torch on their bald bonces as they dance around the campfire at night and imagine extraplanetary sattelites in orbit! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: woodsie Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:15 AM I have not been scalped-yet! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:35 AM I'll bring the flymo ! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Kenneth Ingham Date: 15 Jun 04 - 07:05 PM I've been packing my stuff since last october! - nearly ready ... Just a few more vintage sausages to squeeze into Phellpsie's cab. See you all down the Tally Ho Friday - drinks are on me (only until 10.30pm) Ride On!!! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 17 Jun 04 - 11:36 AM Linda and I have a problem with getting to Knockholt together this year. Linda's son Tom was supposed to be staying with his Dad on Saturday, but his Dad has just booked a last-minute holiday in the Canaries. Yes - we did ask Tom if he'd like to come with us, but if I quoted his answer verbatim, the Joeclones would probably delete this posting - suffice it that the answer was very definitely in the negative. I will be bringing the beer down tonight, and possibly the caravan as well, but Linda & I will probably have to take turns to be there - I think it will be Linda's turn to be around on Saturday Night. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Jun 04 - 06:11 PM Kennels, like my dogs? Actually my dogsitter arrives tomorrow so I will be there about 4 or 5. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 18 Jun 04 - 04:39 AM Ignore my previous posting, Tom's Dad left it too late to confirm his flight and therefore isn't going off this weekend after all - it would have been nice if he could have let us know on Wednesday night, before we started changing our plans ! Beer and caravan are both down at Knockholt. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Jun 04 - 06:37 AM The expression you are looking for is "99-change hands". See you in about 4 hours time... |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 18 Jun 04 - 09:14 AM Might not make it tonight - I've promised Sue Tuckey (Friday Girl) that I'd go to her Music Hall night at the Opington Liberal Club. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: GUEST,Captain Careless lost his cookie Date: 20 Jun 04 - 01:46 PM What a splendid event it was! My only regrets are that I could not make it earlier than I did, and the state of my head! The bitter was nice Dave, and perhaps I should have stuck to it. The fruit punch was excellent Dipsodeb, and lethal. Just the right number of people, so you could hear everyone sing, but more than enough to provide critical mass. Hardly anyone who would not observe the etiquette of "the stick". But there are people like that in every walk of life. Is there an autumn one and when? Tell me when the June one is next year and I'll diarise it right now - and diarise to bring the chainsaw for timber too. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Dave Bryant Date: 21 Jun 04 - 10:49 AM The Saturday night session was rather good this year, but it was bloody cold for the middle of June - at least it kept the beer cool ! It was a pity that more performers didn't make it to "The Tally Ho" at Sunday lunchtime - I ended up doing almost a solo spot. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Jun 04 - 02:07 PM I arrived about one-ish, no sign of anyone, so I went home... Mind you I was more than a bit overhung. Sarah the Flute wants to know if you're going to the next Rochester session at the GOod Intent. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: The Barden of England Date: 21 Jun 04 - 02:41 PM When is the next session ath the Good Intent Richard? - missed the last one as I was booked to do the Pigs Ear weekend at Markbeech. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Jun 04 - 02:56 PM I think they are first Fridays. I'll go and find the thread and refresh it. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Jun 04 - 02:47 AM Where are the blackmail pix? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2004 From: Richard Bridge Date: 27 Jun 04 - 08:21 PM We want the pix! There are those who deserve to be embarrassed (me included)! Although, to be sure, I did not take my top off and dance around the campfire showing off my pierced nipple (of which I have neither one nor two). I also recollect seeing minidisk recorders on the friday night, a cruel thing with which to entrap amateur singers!! |
