We haven't seen much of her since she got offered a lift (to Catford) while trying to hitch to Miskin at Easter - after we 'forgot' to pick her up. She's definitely 'going' - like the clappers with this 6' 6", out-of-work brickie !

How do people feel about using the PA with the radio mic for the Saturday night session round the bonfire ? - it worked well when we used it at the second Knockholt last year.

Micky Forde tells me that there is an agreement with the farmer that no PA will be used. We should really respect that.

No-one can claim that my voice lacks power, but I found it quite a push to be heard at last year's June Saturday night. When we used the radio mic at the autumn session (which had a lot less people) it made many singers audible who would otherwise have not been heard.

What I'm talking about is only light sound re-inforcement - 2 x 30w - most car sound systems are more powerful than that. If people don't want to use the mic they don't have to. I'm about the only person who often chooses not to use the PA at The Tudor Barn, Star & Garter, Beacon sessions - where the acoustics are much easier. In fact at one time Sue and Mick used a radio mic and amp at the "Rising Sun" sessions.

I don't think that the farmer does actually have any problem with a small PA. Pam & Paul Button (who live in the big house over the road) told us that he's actually said that he wished he could hear more of the music - I'll get them to sound him out about it. I can understand that he wouldn't want a 1,000 watt rig though.

Dave, even at your barbies there have been problems with the little rig with people getting too close to the mic, or whatever, and producing the purest 60 watts of distortion. This can be avoided if someone wants to sit at the desk all night turning things up and down, but it's a bit of a bummer for that person, and it does sort of unfolk the process a bit.

I thought the Buttons lived at the big house opposite the end of the lane on the "main" road. If they want to hear it all, that means my 4K rig and a hefty power supply too (just joking).

Paul and Pam Button have had a word with the farmer about the use of PA. He has no objections at all, provided we don't use such a great amount of power that we upset the people in the house over the road. The rig that I was suggesting is only 30w per channel (most car sound systems produce more power), so I don't think that there would be the slightest danger of that.

What I am suggesting is not so much PA, as sound reinforcement for anyone who wants to use it. I'd only use a couple of radio mics which could either be hand held or on a stand. At the autumn event last, it made it possible to hear performers who otherwise would have been inaudible in spite of the fact that the background noise level was considerably lower than the better attended June event.

There is no seperate committee for Knockholt Dave we organise it between the members of the Folk Mob Committee. I usually organise the entertainment stuff/Bar and wood, Mick and Sue organise the loos and the field and Richard organises the money and Dave oversees in general.

Excellent Dave. We shall have the Saturday free shared bar as usual for as long as it lasts - so any contributions from elsewhere (ie, that wine we won in the raffle and will never drink will be appreciated).

The good thing about Knockholt is that it never changes - peaceful surroundings - a real decent pub five minutes walk away (or 3 if you rush)- a real chance to get away from it all. I said it would be great weather etc last year and the photo of Saturday night shows what a great time we had.I am sure that it will be repeated in a couple of weeks.

How about a singing workshop this year - or a short talk on the history of folk music in the area.

PS thanks for a great day on Sunday.I have just put some photo's on my pages - does bring back memories!!.

The whole idea of Knockholt is that it's in the country. You could probably find a hotel at Sevenoaks, or a Pub with accommodation, but why not come and camp with the rest of us - Linda & I have a couple of spare tents which we could lend, and I thought that every "folkie" owned a sleeping bag.

I should think that it's the one thing we can guarantee. Just brought the ingredients for the knockholt Knockout punch and Hubble Bubble lots of trouble what a brew I'll mix for you. Actually I thought we might mix countries of origin too, we have Mohitas from Cuba and Tequila Slammers from Mexico the punch of course is traditonally South East London. I hope we find just the right tunes to compliment the Bar. Yep it's going to be another Saturday Night that might just dim into the ether..... LOL

Linda and I have a problem with getting to Knockholt together this year. Linda's son Tom was supposed to be staying with his Dad on Saturday, but his Dad has just booked a last-minute holiday in the Canaries. Yes - we did ask Tom if he'd like to come with us, but if I quoted his answer verbatim, the Joeclones would probably delete this posting - suffice it that the answer was very definitely in the negative. I will be bringing the beer down tonight, and possibly the caravan as well, but Linda & I will probably have to take turns to be there - I think it will be Linda's turn to be around on Saturday Night.

What a splendid event it was! My only regrets are that I could not make it earlier than I did, and the state of my head!

The bitter was nice Dave, and perhaps I should have stuck to it.

The fruit punch was excellent Dipsodeb, and lethal.

Just the right number of people, so you could hear everyone sing, but more than enough to provide critical mass. Hardly anyone who would not observe the etiquette of "the stick". But there are people like that in every walk of life.

Is there an autumn one and when? Tell me when the June one is next year and I'll diarise it right now - and diarise to bring the chainsaw for timber too.

The Saturday night session was rather good this year, but it was bloody cold for the middle of June - at least it kept the beer cool !

It was a pity that more performers didn't make it to "The Tally Ho" at Sunday lunchtime - I ended up doing almost a solo spot.
