I was listening to an interview with Secor and he said he heard Dylan sing "Rock me Mama like a wagon wheel, Rock me Mama any way you feel" somewhere on The Basement Tapes and wrote the song using that refrain, then contacted Dylan who agreed to split the royalties 50-50. IMO OCMS
is a national treasure, they've written or covered so many good songs. Chance McCoy and Willie Watson have done some great solo work as well.

The last lines seem to come out of nowhere. And If I die in Raleigh at least I will die free.
Does anyone know how these lyrics came to be?

Oh yeah, Marty and OCMS did a great cover of The Who's "I Can See For Miles" together on Marty's "Compadres" album.

I LOVE OCMS. I almost got to see them last year but the show sold out before I got the OK from my work that I'd have the day off.

It really is about 90% Old Crow and about 10% Dylan, Genie, but it's a great song.

They did a brief (not very well publicised) UK tour in the autumn and I caught them in Nottingham. They are such a great live band. I hope they don't leave it too long before they come back!

Just saw Old Crow Medicine Show on Austin City Limits.   "Wagon Wheel" was their finale.
Great song!   I'd forgotten it was Dylan, but OCMS does a helluva job on it.

I looked up the lyrics online. Glad they're already posted here.

However, since they're buried in this thread, when you do a search for "Wagon Wheel" here in the forum, this song does not come up.

Is that something Joe or a clone can fix?   I don't want to duplicate by posting them in a new thread, but if Wagon Wheel can't be added to the DT, maybe it can be fixed so people can find them via the search function?
Use the old forumsearch in quicklinks, and it will come right up. -Joe-

Another great video for one of OCMS's new tunes here.   Great tune, as well.

Also, I know those requests are a couple years old, but if anyone is still looking for lyrics, etc. there's www.oldcrowfans.com and in their lyrics/chords section, they have a link to this page.

Chris

It's a good video, but I prefer the earlier one - just the two of them having a blast with their awesome harmonies and plaintive tones. I hope they come to this part of Colorado sometime. I would NOT miss them for anything if they do come here!

That's a great video, but I have no idea what was going with the dancers hanging around in a recording studio that seemed to be made out of plywood. What the hell - I would go a long way to see OCMS again. This brings back fond memories of the Bristol Rythmn and Roots Festival.

Subject: Lyr Add: WAGON WHEEL (Bob Dylan)
From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca
Date: 16 Jun 07 - 02:30 PM

Wagon Wheel
Written by Bob Dylan with additional lyrics by Ketch Secor
Performed by the Old Crow Medicine Show

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Ketch Secor wrote the additional lyrics. This is my favorite song by them.. They're an incredible live show.. and sweet guys (I went to high school with the bassist.. so.. I'm a little biased..)

Can't help with that particular song, though have also looked for some of their lyrics on the web, without much success.

Wagon Wheel, which is the one I'm singing at the moment-- as far as I can work out, was a fragment of a song that Dylan wrote but never finished or recorded. I think only part of the chorus was his. The rest OCMS wrote.

This gets my vote for record of the year. Hope they decide to tour in the UK some day soon!

I am looking for lyrics to OCMS's "We're All In This Together."

Can anyone help? I am in a band and our genres cover bluegrass, celtic folk, and blues. Weird, huh? The Katie Sullivan Band would love to try this great tune out! If anyone can help, please email me at my website (www.katiemusic.com)

thanks!

I wish people put lyrics in their liner notes too!
as a radio broadcaster i have been in some vere
sticky situations with the F.C.C. needing to watch
out for forbidden words going out over the air!
(not these folks specifically, but I did an "oopsie"
the other day...)

The 'Poor Man' lyrics aren't right, but the others are great.

I wish people put lyrics in the liner notes...

There's a good chance we already have those songs, or some version of them, either in the DT database or posted on a thread somewhere. Hard to tell, from the titles alone, but here's my best guess:

Tell It to Me
Poor Man
Tear It Down
Hard to Love
CC Rider

If those aren't the right versions, maybe you can follow the links to other versions.

I can't help with the web sites at this point, but am pleased to be able to announce that the Old Crow Medicine Show will be performing in my neck of the woods in a few weeks. They will be at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, on May 22.

Hello!

Just wondering if anybody knew of any OCMS fan sites with lyrics, or alternatively knew where the lyrics to the traditional songs on the latest album (Tell It To Me, Tear It Down, etc.) might be otherwise found on the web...

Many thanks.
