Subject: RE: Review: sessions in NC From: GUEST,Heely Date: 03 May 04 - 03:12 PM You are an hour from the center of Folk music in North Carolina. St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, NC has the head quarters and library for "Thistle and Shamrock" the PBS program on Scottish and Irish music. The St. Andrews Pipe Band has been a major recruitment band for the Grade I- City of Washington Pipe Band -on the East Coast US in recent years. A Celtic Heritage weekend is held every spring?I believe. The museum there in the school Library addition is quite extensive in North Carolina Celtic music. The Flora Macdonald Celtic Games are held in Red Springs NC about 20 minutes from you. but I believe that they were two weeks ago. Ask Bill Caudill at the Heritage Center. they are on the College Web site. Heely |
Subject: RE: Review: sessions in NC From: Heely Date: 03 May 04 - 09:25 PM Actually, I am not a guest, but I contacted you from my school computer. NC has a wealth of folk music. There is quite a history of pirate music and Sea Chanteys as well. Blackbeard was a local. Check out Plymouth, NC. Wilmington as well. Good luck.Heely |
Subject: RE: Review: sessions in NC From: SueB Date: 03 May 04 - 10:03 PM If it's not too far you might want to check out the Lake Eden Arts Festival coming up this very weekend - Black Mountain area, I think, and here's a clicky to get you to their website Folk, World Beat, African, Bluegrass, Contra Dancing, Old TIme, etc...if I could, that's where I'd be this weekend (sigh.) |
