Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 04 May 04 - 07:31 PM Use your own ears, Ed! The melody has a lot of chromatics in it, and is a lot harder song to work out than most of songs that people ask for here! Richard Rodgers songs may seem simpleminded to some, but they are not simple music-- I may have them around here somewhere, Renata, and if no one else comes up with them, I'll post them when I have a chance, in the next couple days-- |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: Amos Date: 04 May 04 - 08:28 PM M. Ted's right, Ed -- this is not a basic triad song. A |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: Ed. Date: 05 May 04 - 06:18 PM You are of course right, M Ted and Amos. It was the abruptness of the question, and the lack of a 'please' (maybe I'm old fashioned), that raised my hackles and resulted in my curt reply. |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 05 May 04 - 11:45 PM I understand your feelings, Ed, and admit to having similar ones on ocassion. On another subject, I found the chords and they are in the key of F, not a popular key for acoustic guitar--I'll post them tomorrow, but is it OK to leave them in F? |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: Amos Date: 06 May 04 - 12:04 AM That's why God gave us capos, after all.... A |

Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: Ed. Date: 10 May 04 - 06:13 PM I would hope so! Most of us spend our entine waking lives perfecting comedy routines. |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 11 May 04 - 12:11 PM Most of our waking lives are comedy routines-- Thanks for keeping this thread alive, I am still working on guitar chords for this tune-- |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 11 May 04 - 10:00 PM Long gone are the days of yesteryear – when catters would race to a request and chords were posted in hours, and sometimes minutes – it's a sad, soddy, scrum we have fallen into. Whooee – A nice one for guitar players who can "hammer-on" "hammer-off" these diminished and a bent chords

Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 12 May 04 - 01:09 PM Here are the chords that I promised--Gargoyle's are the one's in the Hal Leonard "Ultimate Broadway Fake Book", and are OK, but I worked these out based on what works smoothly on the guitar.(Gargoyle, you hardly ever posts chords--could it be that you had a crush on Lisle?) Play four down strokes for each measure(between the slash marks) Each letter is two counts, unless it is connected to another with a hyphen, in which case, each of those is one count. If you simply count play the chords as I have written them, you will be able to hear where the melody fall in. If you try to fudge your way through without counting, you will become hopelessly confused and stumble off the edge of the earth-- (verse) ||F-E F/C7 C7/F F/ G7 G7/ Gm7 Gm7/ F F/Gm7 G7/C7 C7 F-E F/C7 C7/F F/G7 G7/ Gm7 Gm7/F F/Gm7 C7/F F| (bridge) |Bb Bb/C9 C9/B9 B9/Bb Bb/ Bb Bb/C9 C9/ G7G7/ C7 C7| (end) |F-E F/C7 C7/F F/Bbm Bbm/ F-E F/D7 D7/G7 G7/F#7F#7/ F F|| The F chord I had in mind is the first position bar chord: 1-3-3-2-1-1 Gm7 is: 3-0-3-3-3-3 C9 is one note different: 3-0-2-3-3-3 Slide it up two frets for D9. G7 3-0-3-4-3-3 Slide it down a fret for F#7-- Bb: 1-1-3-3-3-1 Bbminor: 1-1-3-3-2-1 |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 12 May 04 - 01:12 PM Oh, and for E, just lift up your index finger barre on the first fret, and slide the other fingers down a fret for one count, then pop back to F-- |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 13 May 04 - 09:15 PM No crush - but an entire week is too long for any GUEST to be de- wall-flowered. Yep - Hal/Leonard copyright 1994.

Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: M.Ted Date: 14 May 04 - 12:35 AM Well, check the Chatanooga Choo Choo request, then, I got that up the same day, messy though it is--and done from memory-- |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 May 04 - 03:09 AM Am I misreading those chord shapes? I'd give Gm7 is: 3-5-3-3-3-3 C9 is 3-3-2-3-3-3 D9 0-0-0-2-3-0 G7 3-5-3-4-3-3 (in this context, but more usually 3-2-0-0-0-1) Slide it down a fret for F#7-- |
Subject: RE: Chords to 'Sixteen going on Seventeen' From: GUEST,Bob Ramone Date: 29 Oct 09 - 04:49 PM "F" indeed. The song is in the key of G#! Dunno which version you are listening to but I'm listening to the film version (I'm from England so I don't say "movie"...lol) with Julie Andrews. But thanks for the rest of it. Saves me having to work out the entire sodding thing by ear for my band (which I'm reasonable at but which obviously takes time). All I need do, thanks to you, is transpose to G#. Thanks very much.... appreciated... but I had to correct you on the key. |
