Subject: Lyr Req: 'Bonny She Comes' / 'Mull of Kintyre' From: alanww Date: 07 May 04 - 02:56 PM I have come across a little book entitled Popular Songs for Recorder by Michael Raven, first published in 1978. It includes the tune of 'Mull of Kintyre' with the following comment:- "Christmas 1977 saw The Mull of Kintyre at No 1 in the 'pop charts' with a recording by Paul McCartney & Wings. The tune is also used to carry a song called 'Bonny She Comes', the chorus and first verse of which are: 'Bonny she comes, O'er green field and mountain; Bonny she comes, My lady, my love Oh bonny she comes. She is my lady, Oh she is my love; Her skin in white As the king's snow white dove; Her eyes as black As the sloe and I know That my lady she loves me And so I must go.' " In another thread I believe that the tune, as well as the lyrics of 'Mull of Kintyre', are credited to Paul McCartney. But this reference hints that there may have been an older (traditional?) tune on which it is based. Any further thoughts on this possibility anyone? Also, I would appreciate the lyrics of the other verses of 'Bonny She Comes', as well as the author etc. I have had no luck searching the web, but maybe someone else can find a reference. Thanks. " ("Macca," I presume is Paul McCartney.) In another thread about Mull Of Kintyre, Banjer posted that Paul had said in an interview that he wrote the he wrote the song "because he realized there had no new music written in recent history for the bagpipes that a younger crowd could identify with." I don't know which posts are accurate and which are not. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Bonny She Comes' / 'Mull of Kintyre' From: Darowyn Date: 13 Jun 08 - 07:33 AM The obvious deduction would be that "Bonny She Comes" was written between 1977 (The release of M of K)and 1998 (the publication of the recorder book) ,and that perhaps Mr Raven is the only person who has ever heard of it.
