George (El Greko) had a track of his played last Saturday on Radio Wales' Celtic Heartbeat. Frank Henessey said some really good things about Our George.

Celtic Heartbeat is my favourite folk programme. If you have a spare 3 hours to spare, have a listen.

Thanks for letting me know, Rhiannon and Jennifer.
I sent some stuff to Frank Hennessy at Celtic Heartbeat on spec, at the advise of Les Sullivan, who likes the programme (Frank's programme is in many ways how I'd have liked Mike H's to have been, personally).

Mick got hold of the stuff via Lester Simpson, and called me some weeks ago - he sounds a real gentleman (and a man of excellent taste!;-).

For those who listen to Genevieve Tudor's "Sunday Folk" on Radio Shropshire: This Sunday I should be appearing live for an interview and 2-3 songs. The programme starts at 8:00 pm and I should be an around 8:20-8:30.

Frank is bit of an institution here in South Wales. His group, the Hennessy's, has been going since the 60s (He wrote the classic Farewell to the Rhondda way back when..) and he runs a monthly folk club at the BBC Club in Cardiff. On stage he is a supreme raconteur, turning the slightest incident into a hilarious story.

I agree, agentleman.

Frank played "Give me the good news" on Saturday, and in an email this morning said he'll play another one soon. I don't know which one Mick played. At Genevieve's live interview this Sunday I'll play... nah, you have to listen!

Mick is indeed a man of excellent taste, even if he did say last week "welcome back, this is Radio Derby, I'm Lester Simpson. Oh no, hang on..." always a great listen, Folkwaves. The track was something about Man of Sorrow, he said it was a great goodbye song and lots of people would be singing it soon. I was so chuffed to hear you!

Ah, yes, it's "For now, no sorrow", the closing song of the new album. I remember, he told me he really liked that one; chorus:

...but for now no sorrow;

(I am NOT known for short choruses!)

Yon Radio Wales chap played summat off our 'Woodshed Boys' in April I believe - I emailed and thanked him - and enquired what track he played - never got a reply. Still don't know. Ah well. At least your more 'in the know'. Good on ya!

I'm in old Chicago, but I have been listening to Frank for almost a year now, and it's great to see that he has moved to 3 hours - does that show that folk music is on the rise in Wales?   Enjoyed your song too, George,

If you go to Frank's page on Radio Wales, they have posted lots of playlists, which is really a big help. But it would be nice if they also posted label or contact information.

A month or so ago, Frank play a cd from a group at Atlantic College and gave an e-mail address - I wrote them and found the tunes were recorded in a dorm room! Great sound though, and they are working on a full cd. One of the singers helped me translate a Plethyn song, which was a translation of one of Frank's song - very circuitous.

I hope that, with more time, Frank will be able to play more in Welsh. If anyone wants to post or share Welsh lyrics, here or whatever, please let me know and I can reciprocate. I get some negative reaction when I do Welsh songs at jams here, but it's one of my few chance to speak the language here.
