Subject: RE: Help...Irish Folk Music in Tralee From: Travelling Audience Date: 15 May 04 - 12:50 PM Thanks katlaughing, we promised ourselves we would go over to Ireland and listen to a good Irish Trad. night for the silver wedding anniversary. The family got us to have a party instead--this was eleven years ago. Of course we've had hols. since. Anyway we ARE GOING this year so here's hoping somebody knows of a good pub in Tralee or Waterford. |

Subject: RE: Help...Irish Folk Music in Tralee From: Joe Offer Date: 15 May 04 - 01:42 PM I had trouble finding traditional music in Tralee and other places in the West of Ireland. In Tralee, we came across a dance night, with old couples in their 50's and 60's (and even older, if you can imagine...) dancing to the stereotypical stuff like "Rose of Tralee" and other Bing Crosby Irish hits. Farther north, all we found were American country songs, sung with a brogue. I didn't find good Irish music until I got to Dublin, and Martin Ryan showed me around. I'm sure there's plenty of good, traditional music in the west - but I think you have to know somebody to find it. I suppose that's the case here in the U.S., too. -Joe Offer- |
