Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Soldier Boy From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 May 04 - 12:11 PM I've been to several pow-wows in Minnesota and Wisconsin and all the singing I've ever heard was in native languages, not English. A song and dance to honor veterans and relatives of deceased veterans has been an important feature of every pow-wow I've seen. AIROS (American Indian Radio On Satellite), and Native American Public Telecommunications might be good places to start if you want to explore native music. They have a long list of links to other Indian organizations and resources, including musicians and record companies. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Soldier Boy From: Pogo Date: 14 May 04 - 09:06 PM No this song was different...it had a distinctive Native American sound to it. One part was something like " Aiii-yaaa oh soldier boy...soldier boy " or something to that effect. They played it when they invited members of the audience who had family members who were soldiers to come inside the dancing circle and dance. |

Subject: Lyr Req: Soldier Boy From: Pogo Date: 14 May 04 - 08:20 PM Hi again :) another lyrics request. I went to a local pow-wow a few years back as part of a school assignment. At one point they played a very moving song to honor those who had fought and died in wars but unfortunately all I can remember about it was that it was called Soldier Boy and was just drums and chanting voices. Anyone know anything about this song? Thanks I appreciate it :) |
