Subject: charlie patton songbook From: GUEST,goodnotesx@yahoo.com Date: 17 May 04 - 12:28 AM My name is NORM REID. I've transcribed all 55 Patton recordings and want to get them finalized and published. Can anyone help me get this "CHARLIE PATTON COMPLETE SONGBOOK" to those eager to buy it? |
Subject: RE: charlie patton songbook From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 17 May 04 - 04:22 AM Why didn't you just copy them from the Revenant issue of the complete Charley Patton Recordings where they are readily available albeit somewhat difficult to read because of the choice of paper stock and ink. |
Subject: RE: charlie patton songbook From: GUEST,Ghost of John Date: 17 May 04 - 10:40 AM Why not stuff a sock in it, Hootenanny? There is always room for another set of Patton transcriptions--as no one ever gets everything right--not even sure if anyone knows how he played some of his stuff, technically, and there never has been anybody whose been able to capture the Patton feel-- |
Subject: RE: charlie patton songbook From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 18 May 04 - 09:29 AM Sorry John, I didn't know it ws possible to learn technique from lyrics. Must check those words again. Now, back in your pram and calm down please. |
Subject: RE: charlie patton songbook From: GUEST,Ghost of John Date: 18 May 04 - 06:16 PM Hootenanny, when Mr. Reid said that he had done a complete transcription of 55 Patton recordings I took it to mean that it he had made musical arrangements--as that would be the sort of thing one would properly seek to publish, and the word does have that meaning. I am acquainted with several people who do this sort of thing--it is a lot of work, and not fair to dismiss it lightly. It is also possible that Mr. Reid has only transcribed the lyrics and not the recording per se, in which case you would be right to suggest that he has overvalued his effort-- |
