Subject: American Heritage tape series -- help! From: Jennifer Burdoo Date: 12 Oct 98 - 07:05 PM When I was small, my family had copies of a tape series that was put out by American Heritage. According to the tapes, they were three volumes, concentrating on Anglo- American folksongs up to 1900. There was one volume dedicated to pre-Revolutionary War up to the Civil War, one on the Civil War in particular, and one on songs of the old west (post Civil War). This was my introduction to folksongs and it would bring back a lot of memories if I could just find out the title of the series and any other information about it, such as if it is still being published. Some stuff I can remember: -- It had -tons- of songs on all subjects, including some stuff I've also found on Celtic albums but all with an American perspective. -- It had extensive historical commentary from the man who played the songs, which he gave before playing. He was sometimes accompanied by a woman. -- From some of the commentary I would guess it was produced in the sixties by American Heritage. The tapes I have are pirated copies, part of them missing, and I would dearly like to find out more about this series. If this sounds at all familiar to you, please post! Jennifer Burdoo |
