I going to get accused of trollism here, but here goes....Why not ban Celtic and Rangers Football Clubs and pull down both their stadiums? These clubs represent the worst that is in Scotland, namely sectianism. Both these awful clubs perpetuate bigotry and hatred. Celtic FC was set up by a Catholic priest to stop Irish catholics from integrating into Scottish society and Rangers FC basically serves the same purpose, excpet from the Protestant, or Scottish if you will, point of view. Wretched clubs, the both of them.

So, what does everyone think?

Yep, close 'em both. And abolish sporting sponsorship across the board. And also close any sports club that encourages or appears to countenance racism, sexism or violence in any form among it's members, supporters or players. Then sell off the club's property and hand over the proceeds to organisations dedicated to better relationships between communities. If somebody wants to play a sport, let them play the game without the frenzy machine. If somebody wants to watch a sport, let them watch the game without the kind of mass hysteria and ugliness that causes kids to get corrupted and people to get hurt.

call me old fashioned but do the dirty h**s not have catholics in there team and if my memory serves me correctly do the wee te**hs not have protestans playing for them. Well the answer is yes and does it make a difference to anything at all well I would like to think that people would be more tollerant than they have been up till now about the religious leanings of a player or what team he plays for. However you have to realise that being from Govan and a Proddy does not make you a Gers fan and vice versa from the Tims side. Religion is part of the GLasgow divide its not north or south but its all decided in what foot you kick a ball with.
To sum up I was in Glasgow 3 years ago taking a friend around my beautiful city and there was an walk on of the loyalist variety. Everyone is entitled to there freedom of speech. Whilst this was going on there were BABIES dressed in apprentice boys suits. Thats not footbal in any way shape or form thats parents and as soon as the "grown ups" get the message then the kids might have a chance

Just let him try to open uo this discussion in a Glasgow pub and leave without a sore face, particularly if he has any hint of an English accent.

Both clubs are seriously trying to get rid of the bigotry but this , unfortunately is part of the west of Scotland "culture". Guest Dylan appears to be the only person who has any idea of what the current situation is like.

I haven't really got anything to say on the subject. It was just an idea that came into my head. I don't like football, I have to admit, and I don't like the fanatical tribal loyalty that it inspires in its fans. I think this tribalism suits it self perfectly to sectarianism and racism:sectarianism in Scotland and racism in England. Since I could not "open up this discussion in a Glasgow pub and leave without a sore face," especially as I have more than "a hint of an English accent", just seems to convince me that footie does bring out the very worst in some people.

The so called 'beautiful game' leaves me cold, as does the Catholic/Protestant divide, and that's speaking as a Glaswegian born and bred. By all means ban the Celtic/Rangers thing, but it won't change anybody's prejudices in the west of Scotland. What we're talking about here isn't football, it's tribal warfare.

You are an exception that proves the rule. I've no doubt Rangers has some non-protestant fans, as well. So what! You know what I mean. Celtic and Rangers are tribal clubs that re-inforces sectarianism in Scotland.

As for perfecting the art of anal speech, I think you give me far too much credit. There are others far more adept at that and I name no names. However, you might study your own posting a little more carefully to see where credit properly lies.

I think it would be a splendid idea to join the Scottish and English premiership leagues together, it would shake up the game at a time when a small clique of clubs are starting to dominate both leagues just too much. Of course there would be a huge group of nay sayers.
