Subject: RE: Jimmie Tarlton From: 12-stringer Date: 18 Jun 04 - 05:37 PM I wish, in his vintage years, he had recorded a few less country waltzes and several more dirty blues. I wish more recordings from his later years were available, as he had lost nothing and gained much after a 30-odd year layoff from the microphone. The notes to his Testament record (now on CD) contain a brief bio (the same one you'll find in a late 60s issue of "Sing Out"). I think I remember seeing his obituary in a County Sales newsletter, many years ago. While I love Uncle Dave and Sara Carter and all the others, for me Jimmie Tarlton was the very best of old-time music. They'll play "Uncle Joe and His Hounds" at my funeral. Or else I won't go. |
Subject: RE: Jimmie Tarlton From: HardLuckChild Date: 20 Jun 04 - 12:31 AM I like Jimmie's waltzes, I love his dirty blues songs, and I think that his old-timey ballads are absolutely out of this world. It's really upsetting to me that a lot of people, even fans of blues and old-timey music, have never heard Tarlton do "Lowe Bonnie," "By the Old Oaken Bucket, Louise," "My Father Died A Drunkard," "Sweet Sarah Blues," and "Once I Had a Sweetheart." If anyone would like any mp3s of (Darby) and Tarlton, just let me know via the Mudcat, or e-mail me at Quicksi11ver@aol.com! |
