Subject: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: Deckman Date: 30 May 04 - 01:28 AM I just thought I'd give all you Utah Phillips fans a brief update: Bride Judy and I JUST returned from his feature concert at The NorthWest Folklife Festival, in Seattle. He looks great, sounds great, his voice is as robust as ever, and his storytelling as outrageous as usual. Tonight was a first as he introduced his son, who joined him in stage for one number, playing his musical saw. Of course if you know Utah (Bruce), his "one song" lasted 20 minutes. According to the sheduale, and from people I talked with, he is very active this year. Many smaller performances, workshops, radio gigs, etc. CHEERS, Bob |

Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 30 May 04 - 11:25 AM That's certainly wonderful news to hear. With all the Wobbly history there in the Pacific Northwest I bet there was plenty of fodder for Utah's cannon. All the best to this good man. Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: kendall Date: 30 May 04 - 12:42 PM I talked to him on the phone a few days ago; he's looking forward to coming to Maine, so he must be in pretty good shape. |
Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: Susan A-R Date: 30 May 04 - 08:29 PM I could do with hearing Utah. When will he be in Maine Kendall? Is he doing any of the lesser New England states? |
Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: Blackcatter Date: 30 May 04 - 08:34 PM Great to hear the news. He's someone everyone should be exposed toin their life. I know I try to do so with my friends. |
Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: kendall Date: 31 May 04 - 07:42 AM He is working on a date in Blue Hill Maine in August. As far as I know, he is coming here and I'm going to drive him there. I'd like to see him do a gig at the Chocolate Church, but time's running out and the Blue Hill gig is not carved in stone yet. |
Subject: RE: Utah Phillips looks/sounds great! From: Deckman Date: 31 May 04 - 09:48 AM One of the many qualities I enjoy about Utah is that he always remains true to his values. When he was in Vancouver, Canada recently,he visited and sang for the strikers on the picket line. I believe they were with the Seamen's Union. The first thing he did when he arrived in Seattle this last week was to visit one of our newest "tent cities." These are temporary shelters set up in public areas for the homeless. And then during his concert, he described in detail what he saw and spoke to the needs of the homeless. All this from a man who just turned 70 and is in poor health due to heart issues. Bob |
