Subject: Dances written @ Chippenham this year From: Mr Red Date: 02 Jun 04 - 05:38 PM We had a dance writing workshop with Pete Coe and Eddie Upton and three completed dances came out of it. We disussed the results and were happy with the fine tuning but I was the only one who was ready to archive them for - whoever. The results can be found at Chippenham Windmill with links to the others. As the descriptions are a bit new I am seeking feedback on the wording/description. I may get the organisers to have a "Dance wot ya brung" workshop next year - the dynamics of these things is they have to be seen - written evidence is just not exciting enough - but I have to start somewhere. TIA |

Subject: RE: Dances written @ Chippenham this year From: fiddler Date: 03 Jun 04 - 08:43 AM Delving the depths of my brain now but I think you'll find the first two (windmills and Do si Dos are American Figures! Possibly one of them is or is very similar to a high mountain do si do! Third one not sure but the 4th I think I've done in an American Contra about 10 years ago with a genuine American Caller and band! Sounds good though. |

Subject: RE: Dances written @ Chippenham this year From: Mr Red Date: 05 Jun 04 - 12:53 PM Thanks - there were only 3 at Chippeham (hence their names) and one a couple of years back at Cheltenham. Given the simplicity of basic moves I would be surprised if there was not a re-invention or nearly so. From your post I assume the text is fairly understandable. Which is the basic aim of the thread. The dances certainly work and work well enough to be classed as finished. The descriptions have not been discussed until now. Dosi do's are universal but windmills are not common in E-ceilidh. In fact so rare they don't spring to mind when looking for moves at workshops. But I like the high mountain dosi do description. |
