On July 11/04 there is going to be a benefit for Weir's Walk in Sheffield England. Are any of you planning to attend? I am going to be visiting nearby and it might be my only chance in a lifetime to hear Martin Simpson in person!

What is "Weirs Walk"?
Where is this benefit gig been held?
How much is the tickets cost?
What time does it start?
Who are the artists playing?

The "BBC - Radio 2 - Folk and Acoustic" website ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk/tour_dates/index.shtml ) has a listing for Martin Simpson that says : "July 11, SHEFFIELD - Benefit Gig for 5 Weirs Walk - 0114 2509124".

Such good questions! I am hoping someone can answer them!

I found out about the concert on Martin Simpson's website, and then Tracey Dragonsfield found this for me on the BBC Radio 2 site:

As regards the benefit gig, the "BBC - Radio 2 - Folk and Acoustic" website(http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk/tour_dates/index.shtml ) has a listing for Martin Simpson that says : "July 11, SHEFFIELD - Benefit Gig for 5 Weirs Walk - 0114 2509124".

If someone could phone for free information, from England, rather than me making an expensive call from Canada, it would very much appreciated. My web searches are showing very little results. Thank you so much!

(Oh, and the spelling of Weirs might be Wiers or Weir's or Wier's? Google seems uncertain).

Ah, no worries! I'm just bored here at work, still waiting for my server to compile...

I'd call them up for you, but my company's not too keen on us making personal calls!

(Just to be clear...er....I'd noticed that I'd mucked up Tracey's last name. Field/Friend. Nice of them to let you Mudcat on their time, Tracey. I can't do that while I'm teaching.)

Anyway, back to the July 11 concert. Anyone with more information, or intent to attend - I would love to hear from you!

Is it the Five Wiers Walk Trust? It is trying to do up an area of the city into a scenic leisure area for walkers etc.

http://www.fiveweirs.co.uk/the_trust.htm

Nothing on their website about a gig but that doesn't mean it isn't connected.

Cheers
Sarah

I'm in IT, so we have internet access for the work we do, and I'm completely stuck at the minute! Just waiting for the machines to do their stuff, clicking a bit every so often, then waiting again... yawn!

The 5 Weirs Walk is a walk round the canals and rivers of Sheffield City it was started by Mike Wild a fine singer/melodian player an ex Sheffield City Morris man. Another person involved is Simon Ogden. Simon told me about the benfit with Mr Simpson don't know where it is though !!

Thank you. I've sent out a couple more emails for information (one to Simon and one to the Trust). Strange that if there's a concert that nothing is showing up about it on the web.

I have already sent a cheque to 5 Wiers Walk for my tickets to see the fantastic Martin Simpson. I even had the great pleasure of talking to Martin when I phoned to reserve the tickets.
You might try e-mailing him on his Website. Type in Martin Simpson and search.

Holy crow!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll try what you said , but could you possibly share a bit more info here? Who is performing other than M.S.? How much are the tickets? Where is the event? What time? Etc.?

I'm doing this from Canada, don't forget, and it's been a bit upsetting that it's taking so long to get any concrete information!

I did! I did get an email back from Martin Simpson himself, this morning!

No wonder I couldn't find information on the net. It will be an acoustic boat concert - only 40 tickets available. I'm hoping to be able to figure out a way to be there.
