"At Last" – Release date: 7th June
==================================

Julie's first solo CD features a diverse range of styles, including an unaccompanied song, guitar instrumentals and songs which reflect Julie's influences in ragtime, folk, blues, rock and jazz.

The CD accurately reflects Julie's live performance: one voice, one guitar, no overdubs and no studio tricks. This is an album which encapsulates the soul, passion and spirit of her live work.

The 12-track CD marries 4 tracks recorded at Acoustyistics with 8 tracks recorded at Badge Studios by Keith Angel, an engineer and musician well known for this work with the Angel Brothers, Bill Jones, John Tams and Kate Rusby.

Tracks from the album have already been given airplay in the UK by the "Folkwaves", "Mixed Bag" and "Folk Us!" radio programmes on the BBC and independent local radio stations.

To order a copy please contact Julie@JulieEllison.co.uk or phone +44 (0)1274 691935.

First of all many thanks to all of those who have already bought "At Last" and emailed us with so many positive comments. We're especially grateful to those who have ordered more copies having heard the CD !

Secondly, I am pleased to say that we now have the webshop open for business (thanks to Steve at the excellent Five Trees operation).

Thanks Sooz, really pleased you like it.

Hopefully the next one will not take as long !!

We were a bit concerned about track 11 - you wouldn't believe the angst while we debated if it should be released. We really thought it would be controversial. I'm almost disappointed that nobody has complained about it (Maybe I'm speaking too soon!?!).

Track 11 is "Waiting for a miracle". Most people think its called "All men are bastards" and I think it probably was called that originally.

As the sleeve notes explain, this track and the closing (and title) track "At Last" represent two sides of the same emotions. The two tracks are very much a pair - anger, frustration and bitterness on one hand and sadness merging with freedom on the other.

Julie was pretty keen to not release "Waiting for a miracle", but so many people encouraged her to do so that it ended up on the album. Personally I was blown away by it when I first heard it (this track was recorded by Keith Angel so I didn't hear it in anything but its finished form). When you realise that the guitar and vocal were recorded together it is even more impressive.

I guess it is more Alanis Morrisette than is normal in the folk world. We were a little tense while we waited for the feedback from the inital sales, but so far nobody has even mentioned it. The response has been 100% positive - I must admit to being unprepared for the letters arriving thanking us for making the CD - I can get quite emotional reading the morning post!

Having said that, we should have probably expected more broad minded attitudes in the folk world. Julie was asked to play "Waiting for a miracle" in a session once and received an offer from a couple of guys which included "anything you want from the allotment". Luckily for me she didn't accept !!

Best regards

I think "Waiting for a miracle" is great although my favourite track at the moment is "Southbound".

Glad you like "Southbound" Sue. That was a tricky mastering problem, it sounded great on its own but didn't "sit" with the other tracks. The solution came to me at 3am, sat bolt upright, dashed into my home studio where I was doing the mastering, and mastered it "blind" (or should that be "deaf" since I didn't want to annoy the neighbours by switching on the monitors). Next morning I tested the track with the monitors on and it only needed a minor tweak to finish it!!!

I was quite chuffed with that ...

"At Last" is going to be on many people's album of the year lists come December. It's such a fresh and exciting cd. The instumentals are breathtaking while the emotional range of the songs is quite simply awesome. If you haven't got it yet, don't delay!

As to track 11 most chaps are so used to having their parentage questioned, that it's water off a duck's back for us. In any event in these post Andrea Dworkin days, it's almost a compliment!

Listen and enjoy!

I rather liked J Rob's point on his 15 Jun posting about the broadmindedness of the folk world. Aren't there a lot of us who've never quite admitted we've been going to folk clubs for years not for the folk music but for the other sorts of acoustic music that's mixed in with it? Julie Ellison's work has been the outstanding example of recent years and with the arrival of 'At Last' she's documented her claim to a high position among acoustic artists.
