Subject: Lyr Req: 'the Bird Rock' by Gordon Bok From: GUEST,Michael White Date: 04 Jun 04 - 04:53 PM I am looking for lyrics to the song, "the Bird Rock", by Gordon Bok. I am not familiar with Gordon's original version, but I have heard it via the Three Weird Sisters, and I am simply enchanted (well, as their name implies, they are an enchanting trio!). I would definitely appreciate any help! -michael |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE BIRD ROCK (Gordon Bok) From: SINSULL Date: 04 Jun 04 - 06:42 PM I don't see it in the DT and I hope I am not violating any copyrights. Row, my child, to the Bird Rock where the gulls are sailing free. Dreams they do bring in dreaming, dreams of the cold blue sea, And who would be there but you, love, to see what dreams there be? Horay. horow, oh hooro Row you now, be rowing; the day goes down before, And the ship of fairies sailing to a dark and a distant shore, And how would say what treasures would ever wait them there? Horay... Sing, my love, for the kingdom that ever we thought was gone, For the ship of ghosts is sailing and that one will always return. Drowned are the lands and gone the sails and the gull is their voice alone. Horay... Row, my dear; the day is fair where the young birds learn to sing. The world is a wheel of wonder that only the sun can spin, And the gull on the low and lifting swell is the world a-given wing. Horay... Der hvor alle maker er. Note from Gordon Bok: Inspired by the Norwegian song "Maken" (Gulls) sung by Molly Schauffler, the Barred Islands, 1982. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'the Bird Rock' by Gordon Bok From: GUEST,Michael White Date: 08 Jun 04 - 01:25 PM Ah! Excellent! A million thanks! Would I be pushing my luck to ask for a translation of the final line? Slainte, Michael sangreal at bigfoot dot com |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'the Bird Rock' by Gordon Bok From: Wolfgang Date: 09 Jun 04 - 12:01 PM I could guess at some words, but I couldn't translate. However, these words come from the Norwegian song that was the basis to Bok's song. Look at the first line and you can easily guess what it means if you know that fugle is 'bird'. So a translation of the whole verse would be fine and not only of the last couple of words. Wolfgang Ro mit barn til fugleskjaeret, mange maken fran viider, De som bringer oss I gave, drom om havet. Hele dagen vil vivaere der hvor alle maker er. |
