Well, this is the day folks. The final farewell of the Buffalo Brothers at Folk down the Dale in Doncaster tonight...8pm.
Went to see them last Monday at Epworth for their penultimate performance and realised what a loss to the Folk world they will be. So am going to see them again at their last/final/closure performance.
If anyone can persuade them to perform together again at some point..let me know please...because I would be happy to travel anywhere to see them. If you can make it to Doncaster tonight please be there to know what you are going to miss,if you don't already. Be Blessed all.

What a sad loss to the folk scene. They gave "Down the Dale" Folk
Club a night to remember along with old friends. A CD was

recorded as we listened and we think will be available at the
Lonsdale nearer to October.

Well folks...that is it...the concert is over and the Buffalo Brothers are now retired...hopefully they will play the odd folk club in the future as guests as it would be sad to lose them completely...Tonights concert was incredible with people coming from as far away as Ormskirk to pay tribute and perform with the guys.
Nice to meet you Mark...
Be Blessed all.

I almost had an attack.. I thought it meant that the Buffalo Bros. Guitar shop in Carlsbad, CA had gone under. And I thought they had just moved a few blocks down.

I've just got back from Donny after a cracking night at the Lonsdale. 15 years disappeared in an instant! There was talk of a Swiftnick reunion sometime but that was maybe tongue in cheek.
Thanks to the Mudcatters for bringing the gig to my attention - the tinternet's a great thing despite the faults and thanks to John and Tina for putting me up for the night - I think we all got to bed at half past two after catching up with 15 years over a few more beers.

Good to put a couple of faces to names as well

More to do tonight as I'm doing the residency at the Wooden Horse in Rainford Lancashire for another couple of great guys - Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher.

Cheers
Mark

Mark, you're not by any chance Doing a gig with Vin Garbutt soon are you? 'cos we listened to Bill and Dave at Market Rasen last Friday, Buffalo Brothers last night and Vin Garbutt tonight at the Turks Head,Lincoln. What a week-end, shattered but still going on.

I can't think why you call yourself Travelling Audience!!
I'm afraid Vin Garbutt doesn't feature in my gig support list at the moment. Does Tanglefoot count in a couple of week's time? That's at the Broken Token folk club in Mawdesley, Lancashire - 16th June.

Sooz - As long as it doesn't get me into trouble I'll mention it and get back to you. Did I talk to you last night and not know who you were?

No, Mark. I was at Lincoln Folk Club having been at the penultimate BB gig a couple of weeks ago. BTW Tanglefoot are Travelling Audiences favourite!

Sooz is right, Tanglefoot are ONE of our many favourites! We just
like live music... Sadly their dates clash. Must go we are now off to see Vin. Hope Bill Whaley has not cut any Hedges lately, "Vera" says..

I passed on "Vera's" regards to Bill. He just burst out laughing which makes a change for Bill - he's usually a grumpy old bugger!!
They've cut the juggling with hedge trimmers out of the act - Whilst this might have been an interesting attention grabber it was felt that the safety risk was too much.

We had a cracking night with the pair of them - it wasn't as busy as it normally is because at least 11 people who would normally be there were on holiday or doing other things (maybe they'd heard I was doing the support) but there still plenty in. Got a couple of new songs out of them as well - listen out for them - they're belters.

We got a "banjo" tune out of Bill's S-Wave MIDI "concertina" which made the organiser cringe - he hates banjos - and concertinas - and melodeons. I can't think why he booked them. I think his comment at the committee meeting (as we run the club on a democratic basis - sort of) was "Can we book the singer and not have the concertina player" Only joking Jim - I'll play you a few songs on my banjo next time I see you!

The path from Lincolnshire to Lancashire is well trod by Bill and Dave and they're up here again in three weeks for the Chorley (Four Fools) folk festival.

Too much thread creep here - sorry

Cheers
Mark

Having been out of the folk scene for 30 years and running a new folk club for the first time, I asked Sooz who I should book as my first big act.

She said Bill and Dave.

I am so glad I listened to her advice.

They were excellent and very professional. Their music was great and their humour had everybody rolling in the aisles.

Thanks Bill and Dave for such a pleasurable evening.

They will be back at Market Rasen next year if I can find a suitable date.

Hello there

I've only just discovered this forum so bear with me if I cock up my very first post.

It is enormously humbling to read so much good stuff about two scruffy Doncaster layabouts, who for not much more of a good reason than pure bone idleness and terminal apathy have decided to call it a day. Buffalo John has had some illness to deal with tis true, and on a couple of occasions we let the side down by missing a gig or two. We decided it would be far kinder to stop gigging altogether rather than let folks down.

Playing to really good enthusiastic people on two occasions over the last couple of weeks, Epworth and the Lonsdale, and receiving nothing short of generous praise has made me wonder why on earth we are calling it a day. The response has been incredible and I can honestly say it was totally unexpected.

I would like to thank everybody who came along to support our last couple of gigs, everybody who came up on stage to help us out, Michelle Andrews, Jon Chapman, Mark Dowding, Alan Nicoll, Liam Wilkinson and Howard Rowe and to everyone who has booked us and enyoyed our music over the past 10 years.

Buffalo John and Buffalo Allan are the best of mates and have been for over twenty years, and they continue to see one another regularly. Somehow, I can't really see this being the end...can you? I mean, who's gonna sing these songs if we don't?

Thank you one and all
Allan Wilkinson
Buffalo Sibling

I'm saddened that the BBS are no longer, and I wish them both the best in their future projects. I have had some lovely times with you guys, Buff Allan and Buff John... and I send you my thanks from Finland.

I am a bitway through recording my own CD... slow going, cos I'm training and working as a psychologist now :O

Allan, John... drop us a line sometimes...

Thanks again ;)

David
