Subject: Could this be the ultimate backing band?

I have been following a number of threads on mudcat recently (Accompanying musicians - Is Hull Folk Club Rubbish - Robin Hood's Bay etc) and in each of them there is the common strand of the musician who causes chaos by the inappropriateness of their playing. Usually suggestions range from "throw them into the river" to etc etc

So I wondered...

Is there a world somewhere where all these people could be put together and create the Ultimate Backing Band. Always playing their own thing. Always playing their version of the tune. Always playing in their own key. Always glaring at each other...

Could a home be created that would satisfy everyone?

(And I am no saint myself having, I'm sure, wrecked many a song myself in the past - and always with the best of intentions. Dear Lord, that it doesn't happen tonight...)

At one time when we were playing for dances our group was an 'open' band. At times we had as many as thirteen guitarists flailing away, mostly off mike, thanks be to goodness. After one tortuous tune was ended, one of us said, Who said you can't have six different beats?
