Here is another song that I found in my camp song collection. Does anyone have any info about it?

See those clouds rolling away.
See those stars shining so gay.Hear the wind in the tall pine trees
and you'll know exactly why I'm free.

Chorus
I am a rover, rolling along
Rover, singing a song
I am a rover, till the day I die.

Have few friends but they are true
The mountains, flowers, streams so blue
I am a wanderer never standing still
I must go onward to those hills.

Traveling through this world of men
I may never see you again

Well, I found it in two international Girl Scout songbooks. It's not in any of the earlier U.S. Scout songbooks we have indexed in this thread. The songbooks give no information about the origins of the song.

The Rover

See those clouds rolling on their way.
See those stars shining so gay.
Hear the wind in the tall pine trees.
And you'll know exactly why I'm free.

Chorus
I am a Rover, rolling along
Rover, singing a song
I am a Rover, until the day I die.

Have few friends, but they are true,
The mountain flowers, the sea of blue,
I'm just a wanderer, never standing still,
I must go onward to the hills.
CHORUS

Through this world I'm bound to roam,
Without a bed, a fire or a home,
But I have a friend, a friend that is true,
And that my comrade, that is you.
CHORUS

If you see me passing by
and you stop and wonder why
and you wish that you could be a rover too
Nail your shoes to the kitchen floor
lace them up and bar the door
and be thankful for the roof thats over you

I am a Rover, rolling along
Rover, singing a song
I am a Rover, until the day I die.

I've been looking for this song for years. I first heard it at Camp Metaka in the summer of 1976, at Camp Fire Girls summer camp. Now I discover I've been mixing half verse/half chorus whenever I've tried to remember it. How wonderful to have finally found the whole song! Thank you very much.

My mother and I used to sing this song together and I never knew where it came from. She passed away in 2000 and I haven't heard the song since. As I sit here singing it, I can hear her voice. Thank you so much, you don't know what this means to me.

Wow - I used to sing this at Camp Mountain Meadows in California, where I was a camper for several summers in the early-mid 1970's. I never knew all the lyrics. This is fantastic. Thank you!

Traveling through this lonely world of men
I may never see you again
But I hope that you'll always think of me
No matter where you happen to be

This verse sent me into hysterics at a spring vacation camp in 1972. I didn't know why, but it was serious. Everyone was worried about me. I was 13. The next night we sang it, I felt an incredible sense of peace, one I've never felt before or since. Two days later, we arrived home to discover that the "peace" night, my beloved great grandmother had died. This is the first place I've seen reference to this verse, though I've never forgotten in in the ensuing 45 years. Thank you!
