Subject: Don't take my..
From:
Date: 17 Oct 98 - 05:51 AM

A few weeks ago I was listening to the radio and they did an interview with a Scottish folk singer/songwriter.

Unfortunately I didn't catch his name but he sang a song which was about splitting up with his wife and the subsequent dividing of the chattels & the gist of it was he wasn't happy about some of the choices that she had decided to take as her share of their CD/Record collection

The song went along the lines of ...

You can take my.....(just for the sake of argument) Buck Owens but I want to keep my Leonard Cohen...etc. etc.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

Ritchie

Was it perhaps a song called D.I.V.O.R.C.E. and could it have been Billy Connolly or Eric Bogle? Just a wild guess, I'm afraid, as I've heard of the song but am not familiar with the words. - Susanne

I cannot imagine Eric Bogle singing this song, a staple of tavern jukeboxes for many years. Is this the same song sung by -- Loretta Lynne? Tammy Wynette? Dolly Parton?

Hi,

It's not the Billy Connolly D.I.V.O.R.C.E, (a great song) but sorry I can't be of any help as to what it is.

Ritchie I taped this a few weeks ago off a radio program I'll see if I can dig it out. The whole thing hinged around dividing up the record collection.

Subject: Lyr Add: ACHY BREAKY SONG (Weird Al Yankovic)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 26 Feb 10 - 07:51 AM

Well, Weird Al isn't Scottish, and ACHY BREAKY SONG isn't about dividing up a record collection, but other than that....

From the recording at YouTube:

ACHY BREAKY SONG
Words, Weird Al Yankovic.
Music, ACHY BREAKY HEART by Don Von Tress (recorded by Billy Ray Cyrus).

You can torture me with Donny and Marie.
You can play some Barry Manilow,
Or you can play some schlock like New Kids on the Block,
Or any Village People song you know.

Or play Vanilla Ice. Hey, you could play 'im twice,
And you could play the Bee Gees any day,
But Mister DJ please, I'm beggin' on my knees.
I just can't take no more of Billy Ray.

Don't play that song, that Achy Breaky song,
The most annoyin' song I know,
And if you play that song, that Achy Breaky song,
I might blow up my radio.

You can clear the room by playin' Debby Boone,
Or crank your Abba records until dawn.
Oh, I could even hear Slim Whitman or Zamfir.
Don't mind a Yoko Ono marathon.

Or play some Tiffany on eight-track or CD,
Or scrape your fingernails across a board,
Or tie me to a chair and kick me down the stairs.
Just please don't play that stupid song no more.

Don't play that song, that Achy Breaky song.
You know I hate that song a bunch,
And if you play that song, that nauseatin' song,
It might just make me lose my lunch.

Don't play that song, that Achy Breaky song.
I think it's drivin' me insane.
Oh, please don't play that song, that irritatin' song.
I'd rather have a pitchfork in my brain.

Don't play that song, that Achy Breaky song,
The most annoyin' song I know.
And if you play that song, that Achy Breaky song,
I might blow up my radio.
