Subject: RE: BS: In some thread everybody has to be last From: pdq Date: 11 Jun 04 - 06:09 PM In the southern California desert, in the vicinity of Death Valley Nt'l. Park, is a freeway exit marked "Zyzzx". The name rhymes with "physics". Origionally started as a science research station many years ago, it was just a desolate spot near China Lake. When the highway department needed a name for the road/exit, they asked the man who ran the research station. He invented the name, explaining that his wife did most of the talking, and this was his best chance "to get the last word!" |

Subject: RE: BS: In some thread everybody has to be last From: Sam L Date: 11 Jun 04 - 09:23 PM No. That would be In every thread someone has to be last, so eventually everyone gets a turn. The idea here is that it's a thread in which every post is categorically last. Think of it horizontally rather than vertical. It's appeal is that usually when one does have the last word, when someone is last, there's no satisfaction in it, because it probably wasn't intended. One feels simply that one has killed the thread. There are exceptions--some people seem to always post curt last-word sorts of things--but these never turn out to be last. So, for example, descending from several threads about movies, Oliver Stone sucks. |
Subject: RE: BS: In some thread everybody has to be last From: pdq Date: 11 Jun 04 - 09:45 PM Fred Miller...there is no one way to kill a thread. The possibilities are endless. Both of us know this by personal experience. Sometimes horizontal is just as good as vertical. Yes, Oliver Stone sucks. |
